Dr. Michael J. Kowolik (a TUMS visiting professor) and Dr. Tien-Min Gabriel Chu from Indiana University-School of Dentistry, US, Dr. Sanjay Miglani from Jamia Millia Islamia, India, Dr. Josette Camilleri from University of Malta, Malta, Dr. Kishor Gulabivala from UCL Eastman Dental Institute, UK, Dr. Imad About from Aix-Marseille University, France, and Dr. Kerstin Galler from University Hospital Regensburg, Germany were the international speakers of the congress.
In addition to giving lectures in the congress, several scientific discussion panels were held by international and national speakers. Discussion panels and group meetings were welcomed by students, faculty members of the Endodontics Department and other attendees of the congress.
Besides participating in the congress, most of the international speakers engaged in educational and organizational activities of the university:
Dr. Sanjay Miglani, participated in a thesis defense meeting of the first TUMS postgraduate specialty international student at the School of Dentistry as the external jury member. He also had a fruitful meeting with Dr. Bayat, Dean and Dr. Khami, Vice-Dean for International Affairs of School of Dentistry and Dr. Nekoofar, director of International Relations, Accreditation and Ranking, which he hoped these activities would result in more collaboration between Dr. Miglani and TUMS’ School of Dentistry.
Moreover, following the collaboration between TUMS and Indiana University, in a meeting on July 31st, 2016, Dr. Kowolik, Executive Associate Dean and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Global engagement, and Dr. Chu, Associate Dean for Research at School of Dentistry and the officials of School of Dentistry, Dr. Nekoofar and Ms. Azadi, Accreditation Senior Officer, discussed the accreditation of dental programs in the University. They also visited different departments of the School. Later, the delegation of Indiana University had a lunch meeting with Dr. Ahmadian, Dean of Research Center for Biomedical and Robotics at Imam Khomeini Hospital Complex. They also paid a visit to the Children Medical Center Hospital and Dental Research Center of TUMS.
Dr. Josette Camilleri took the first step in fostering collaboration with TUMS by visiting School of Dentistry on July 31st, 2016. In this visit, Dr. Nekoofar, who is also the faculty member at this School, accompanied her and gave thorough explanation about each department. After visiting, faculty members and students of Endodontics Department had a discussion panel with Dr. Camilleri. At the end, she hoped for closer relation with TUMS.
Finally, considering the mutual interests between the international speakers and TUMS family and their future plans in extending collaboration with the university, TUMS appointed Dr. Miglani, Dr. Camilleri, Dr. Gulabivala, Dr. About and Dr. Galler as International Visiting Professors of the university.
