The TUMS International Day, which was celebrated for the very first time, was also aimed at celebrating Norooz, the New Year’s Day in the solar calendar which is less than two weeks away.

This event, held at the TUMS National Museum of Medical Sciences History, saw the presence of several ambassadors and diplomats from different embassies in Tehran, as well as TUMS international students and students from University of Tehran. Also present were Mr. Ali Mohammadi, Deputy General Director, Iranian Affairs Abroad, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Jafarian, the Chancellor of the university, Dr. Arabkheradmand, the Vice-Chancellor for Global Strategies and International Affairs, and numerous faculty members.

The event started at 9:00 a.m. The program of the day included different entertainments for the guests, including visits to the museum, different types of refreshments and live music. Moreover, international students had stalls, one for each country, in which they showcased traditional items and aspects of life in their own countries by displaying pictures, edibles, and other items such as handicrafts and traditional clothing.

Upon arrival, ambassadors and diplomatic guests were received by Dr. Jafarian and Dr. Arabkheradmand, took pictures with them, and were then given a tour either of the museum or the TUMS International Students Exhibition.

Before lunch, Dr. Arabkheradmand welcomed all guests with a short speech. Afterwards, Mr. Mohammadi briefly talked about the relation between Iran and other countries in terms of academic and educational activities, and the importance of events such as the TUMS International Day celebration in promoting cross-border ties and intercultural understandings. Next, different diplomatic guests took the podium to express their opinions and ideas regarding academic relations with Iran, and specifically with TUMS. In the end, Dr. Jafarian gave a short speech and talked about the importance of this day to the TUMS family, and emphasized the interest at TUMS in recruiting international students, establishing ties with other academic institutes around the globe, and venturing into joint projects, programs, and research activities with other universities.

After the speech, Dr. Jafarian and Dr. Arabkheradmand unveiled the TUMS International Day postage stamp, custom-made for that occasion, which was then signed by the present diplomatic guests, as well Dr. Enayat A. Shabani, Dr. Arabkheradmand, and, of course, Dr. Jafarian. This occasion concluded with lunch for all guests and students, and ended around 2:30 in the afternoon.
