Dr. Jafarian and Dr. Kowolik Engage in Talks Regarding Future Collaborations

On the third day of his stay in Tehran, Dr. Michael J. Kowolik, Director and Professor of Graduate Research in the Department of Periodontics and Allied Dental Programs at Indiana University School of Dentistry, met with TUMS Chancellor Dr. Jafarian, and visited TUMS School of Dentistry, International Campus, and TUMS School of Advanced Technologies in Medicine.

 

 

On Monday, August 3rd, 2015, Dr. Kowolik and TUMS Chancellor, Dr. Jafarian held a meeting and discussed possible collaborations between IUPUI and TUMS. On behalf of the next chancellor of IUPUI, Dr. Naser Paydar, Dr. Kowolik expressed his willingness toward establishing collaborations between the two institutes. “In order to have the MoU signed by IUPUI, it is necessary to suggest an implementation plan,” he stated. The TUMS Chancellor pointed out that he was hopeful to start the collaboration with the TUMS School of Dentistry and expand the activities with the Department of Bioengineering at IUPUI. He, along with Dr. Nekoofar, Director of International Relations, Accreditation and Ranking (DIRAR), also discussed some of the international programs implemented within the university such as the TUMS’s accreditation by ASIC.

 

After meeting with the Chancellor, Dr. Kowolik visited TUMS School of Dentistry, International Campus, being introduced to different departments of the campus and discussing different aspects for future cooperation.

 

In the afternoon, Dr. Kowolik paid a visit to TUMS Core Facilities. On this visit, Dr. Ahmadian, Head of School of Advanced Technologies in Medicine, gave a thorough presentation of the facilities of the center and its expert faculties. Dr. Kowolik then engaged in talks with the officials of the center and offered valuable suggestions on how the center could increase its income through marketing programs and also how to approach collaboration with other similar centers inside and outside the country.

 

They later on paid a thorough visit to the facilities. There, faculty members of the school provided introductions and explanations regarding the local invention of some machines and devices, the students, programs and the academic staff of the school.

 

At the end of the meeting, both sides expressed interest in establishing a collaboration and to mutually contribute to each other’s knowledge.
