Department of Nuclear Medicine was founded in Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) almost 40 years ago. Currently, our expanding department consists of centers in 5 different hospitals and a research institute all affiliated with TUMS. The department also hosts the offices of the Iranian Society of Nuclear Medicine and the Iranian Journal of Nuclear Medicine.
We provide a wide range of conventional nuclear medicine services and radionuclide treatments, as well as state-of-the-art procedures, especially following the utilization of our PET/CT, SPECT/CT, and in-house cyclotron facility. Our in-patient treatment section with 22 beds is the largest of its kind in the country and even in the region, operating as a referral center, especially for treatment of thyroid cancer. The research products of the department are extensively reflected by international recognitions and achievements.
We welcome enthusiastic international students to share our experiences with them and take advantage of their inputs and contributions in our research projects, especially in the areas of production of new radiopharmaceuticals and their clinical applications. We also actively promote research on the application and accuracy of PET, as well as conventional nuclear medicine imaging, simulation studies, dosimetry, artificial neural networks, and investigations based on the immense database of radionuclide therapy, including our vast experience and data on differentiated thyroid cancers with follow-up history for more than 30 years.
