TUMS Delegation Meets Iraqi Minister of Higher Education

Dr. Karimi, the Chancellor of the University and a delegation, met Iraqi Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and held meetings with several ministry executives and heads of a number of Iraqi universities.

 

 

During this visit, which took place from 5th to 7th of September, 2018, Dr. Kordi, Vice-Chancellor for Global Strategies and International Affairs, Dr. Biglar, Vice-Chancellor for Management Development and Resource Planning, and Dr. Nowruzi, the Coordinator between Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Iraqi universities and higher education institutions, accompanied the Chancellor of the University.

 

Dr. Kordi, pointing out the meeting with the Iraqi Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Abdul Razak Al Eaisa, added that the issue of the establishment of a branch of the Tehran University of Medical Sciences in Iraq was also discussed and, in the light of the previous discussions, received positive feedback from the Minister.

 

The Vice-Chancellor for Global Strategies and International Affairs said that the meeting between the Chancellor of Tehran University of Medical Sciences and the President of Kufa University led to the signing of a joint cooperation agreement.

 

He stated that organizing graduate and short-term courses in the field of medical education, the recruitment of full-time or part-time Iraqi students in dentistry, and holding general and specialty courses for students introduced by this university has been emphasized in this memorandum of understanding. He added that 300,000 Iraqi patients are said to have traveled to Iran for treatment, a number expected to increase this year.

 

Dr. Kordi also referred to the meetings of the University delegation with the authorities of the holy shrines of Imam Ali, Imam Hussein, and Hazrat Abu al-Fazl, and said: “during these meetings, agreements were reached on increasing the number of students to study at TUMS with scholarships granted by the Holy Imam Hussein Shrine.”

 

He also emphasized that the admission of students from the holy shrines of Imam Ali and Hazrat Abu al-Fazl and the cooperation in the field of health tourism with these three centers was highlghted.

 

Dr. Kordi also noted that the Holy Imam Hussein Shrine has a newly established university and is interested in cooperating with the Tehran University of Medical Sciences in scientific fields such as holding training courses and specialist staffing.

 

At the end, he said he hoped the meetings and its achievements would help define the academic position of TUMS in the region and develop academic relationships with Iraqi universities.
