Reporting the news, Dr. Yunesian, TUMS Vice Chancellor for Research reiterated that TUMS is ranked first in the country in ESI ranking system. Collection and analysis of the data for top 1% of the papers with the most citations in ISI Web of Science, during a ten year period –since January 2004 until April 2014 - is considered as the criterion for the above-mentioned ranking. The data is also updated every two months. At present, six Iranian universities including Tehran (TUMS), Shahid Beheshti, Shiraz, Tabriz, Isfahan and Mashhad Universities of Medical Sciences, are ranked by ESI and TUMS is referred to as the first one in Iran.

Accordingly, number of university papers and the number of citations have been 13,137 and 75,520 respectively. Moreover, the average of citation per paper has been 5.52. 48 papers of the university have also been named among the most cited papers.

It is worth mentioning that TUMS is deemed as 838^th in terms of citations and 429^th regarding number of papers, compared to other universities worldwide.
