Dr. Jafarian and Dr. Kowolik Engaged In Talks About The Future Collaborations
On the third day of his stay in Tehran, Dr. Michael J. Kowolik, Director and Professor of Graduate Research in the Department of Periodontics and Allied Dental Programs at the Indiana University School of Dentistry in Indianapolis, Indiana, met TUMS Chancellor Dr. Jafarian, visited International Campus of Dentistry and School of Advanced Technologies in Medicine and met with the officials from both schools.

On Monday, August 3rd, 2015 Dr. Kowolik and Dr. Jafarian held a meeting and discussed the possible collaborations between IUPUI and TUMS. On behalf of the next chancellor of IUPUI who will be Dr. Naser Paydar, Dr. Kowolik expressed his willingness toward establishing collaborations between the two parties. “In order to have the MoU signed by IUPUI it is necessary to suggest an implementation plan,” he said. The Chancellor of TUMS pointed out that he was hopeful to start the collaboration with the TUMS School of Dentistry and expand collaborations with the Bioengineering Department of IUPUI. Dr. Nekoofar, Director of International Relations, Accreditation and Ranking (DIRAR) and Dr. Jafarian also explained about some of the international programs implemented within the university such as the university’s accreditation by ASIC, a British accreditation institution. “TUMS has missed the chance to be accredited by American institutes due to the sanctions,” Dr. Jafarian said and Dr. Kowolik expressed his readiness to help TUMS in this regard.
After meeting with the Chancellor, Dr. Kowolik visited the TUMS International Campus of Dentistry. Dr. Pourhashemi showed different parts of the campus to Dr. Kowolik and Dr. Khami, Vice Dean of Global Strategies and International affairs of School of Dentistry, introduced the campus briefly to him. Both parties discussed different aspects of the collaboration in the meeting held on campus.
In the afternoon, Dr. Kowolik paid a visit to the Core Facilities of TUMS. In this visit Dr. Ahmadian, the Head of the School of Advanced Technologies in Medicine, gave a thorough presentation of the facilities of the center and its expert faculties. Then Dr. Kowolik engaged in talks with the officials of the center and answered their questions. He also offered valuable suggestions on how the center could increase its income through marketing programs and also how to approach collaboration with other similar centers inside and outside the country.
Then they paid a detailed visit to the center facilities. Dr. Faridi explained how he had invented some machines and devices. Prof. Qanbari, a faculty member of the school also provided details and explanations concerning the students, programs and the faculties of the school.
At the end of the meeting, both sides were looking forward to establishing collaboration and to mutually contributing to each other’s knowledge. Dr. Tavoosi and other faculty members of School of Advanced Technologies in Medicine were also present in this meeting.
Dr. Nekoofar, Director of DIRAR and Ms. Mohammadian, International Collaborations Officer at DIRAR, were present in all of the visits and meetings Dr. Kowolik paid.
