Vienna Medical University and Leiden University Medical Center meet RIHOSCT
Prof. Ulrich Jager, from Vienna Medical University, Austria and Prof. Agatha Brand, from Leiden University Medical Center, the Netherlands met with Prof. Ardeshir Ghavamzadeh, the director of The Research Institute for Hematology, Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplantation on January 15, 2013.

 

After welcoming the guests, Prof. Ardeshir Ghavamzadeh briefly introduced the Research Institute for Hematology, Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplantation. As he stated, the center was founded in 1991.It was further expanded in 2000. It is considered as a main national hematology-oncology center, it is among the most prominent stem cell transplantation centers in the world, with more than 300 successful transplantations performed per year.

 

He added the center is mainly involved in new therapeutic approaches which are developed or under development for hematologic-oncologic patients, particularly stem cell transplantation. It is also involved in the research activities aimed at improving the diagnosis and management of different hematologic and oncologic diseases.

 

Dr. Hamidieh and Dr. Moghadam explained the activities done in RIHOSCT in details. They also introduced different parts and units in the center.

 

Having visited the Hematology and Oncology ward, Iranian Stem Cell Donor Program (ISCDP), Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT), Data Management Department, and Cell Separation Unit, Prof. Jager and Prof. Brand revealed their willingness to boost their scientific ties with the center in near future.

 

Exchanging staff and students, running educational programs, teaching fellows and young scientists are among the areas of cooperation proposed by Prof. Jager and Prof. Brand.
