A visit to School of Medicine by Dr. Vahaboglu, Istanbul Medeniyet University, Turkey
Dr. Haluk Vahaboglu, a Professor at Istanbul Medeniyet University, Turkey visited the Department of Microbiology, School of Medicine, Tehran University of Medical Sciences on 16, January, 2013.

 

Dr. Vahaboglu, the Professor of Istanbul Medeniyet University, Turkey met with Dr. Mirsalehian, the chair of the Department of Microbiology, and Dr. Bonakdar, School of Medicine.

 

To begin with, Dr. Mirsalehian gave a brief introduction of the Department of Microbilogy and the activities being done in the department. Later, Dr. Bonakdar opined about the initiation of International Scientific Collaboration with Istanbul Medeniyet University. He stated that exchanging of grad students for lab activities for a period of 6 months could be a good start for commencing the collaboration.

 

Having visited the Research Lab of the Microbiology Department, Dr. Vahaboglu admired the research and diagnostic activities carrying out in the department. He showed his enthusiasm for carrying out the same activities in Istanbul Medeniyet University with the collaboration of TUMS.

 

About Dr. Vahaboglu

 

Haluk VAHABOGLU is a Professor of Infectious Disease and Clinical Microbiology since 2000 and currently Chair of the Department at Istanbul Medeniyet University since 2011. He received MD degree in 1983 at Ankara University Medical School and specialty in 1991. He was Chair of Turkiye EKMUD, the society of infectious diseases and clinical microbiology specialists, between 2010 and 2012.

 

His main research interests are “resistance mechanisms of gram-negative nosocomial pathogens” and “epidemiology of ICU infections”. He has 52 international publications with more than 900 citations and an h-factor of 17.
