Abstract(Please copy/paste the abstract send to the congress) : 1. Background and Objectives: To evaluate histopathological features and identify statistically significant parameters in distinguishing palmoplantar psoriasis and eczema of these regions in patients referring to Razi skin hospital of Tehran, Iran.
Methods: In a cross-sectional study the patients referring to Razi Hospital in between October 2010 to October 2011 were subjected. Biopsies of 36 patients with palmoplantar psoriasis and 16 patients with eczema of these regions enrolled.
Results: 36 patients with psoriasis (69.2%) and 16 patients with eczema (30.8%) of palms and soles with mean age of 44.5 years (ranged 16-70 years) were included into the study. Women were more affected than men (34 versus 18). Histopathologic findings which found to be statistically significant contributors to the diagnosis of psoriasis were hypogranulosis, Munro’s microabscess, tortuous blood vessels in papillary dermis, plasma mounds, confluent parakeratosis and spongiform pustule.
Conclusion:
Our results showed that psoriasis was more common than eczema in the palms and soles and women were more over affected than men by the disease. According to obtained results, histopathologic finding like hypogranulosis, Monro’s microabscess, tortuous blood vessels in papillary dermis, suprapapillary plate thinning, confluent parakeratosis and spongiform pustule of Kogoj have significant relationship with psoriasis and may be useful for its diagnosis.
2. Introduction: To study expression of Activated-Leukocyte-Cell-Adhesion-Molecule (ALCAM) in squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of head and neck skin comparing with oral SCC and its association with clinicohistopathological parameters.
Method: In a cross-sectional study, samples of SCC of head and neck skin and oral mucosa were simultaneously studied of tumor size, differentiation and lymph-node metastasis with ALCAM expression by IHC.
Results: 58 samples of tongue and oral mucosa and 44 samples of head and neck skin belonged to 70 men and 32 women with mean of age 61.7 years-old were studied. From all, 81 (79.4%) of samples were positive for ALCAM. Total and cytoplasmic ALCAM expressions were significantly more in skin and lip compared with oral mucosa and tongue (P=0.04). Odds of total ALCAM expression in tumors with size of at least 20 mm (p=0.001) and cytoplasmic ALCAM expression in patients with age 40 was more (p=0.003). Chi square tests showed significant associations between increasing of total (P=0.01) and cytoplasmic (P=0.04) ALCAM expression with better differentiation.
Conclusion: Higher expression of ALCAM in skin and lip SCC in contrast with oral mucosa and tongue lesions shows the important molecular discrepancy which may have role in their various behaviors in these two regions.
3. Angioma serpiginosum, first described by Hutchinson in 1889, is a rare benign vascular nevus with dilatation and proliferation of the capillaries in the upper dermis. A 31 years old man presented with linear asymptomatic red-color macules covering the right arm, trunk and the left thigh since childhood. The lesions were arranged in linear and serpiginous patterns following the lines of Blaschko. Dermoscopy reveals numerous small, relatively well-demarcated, round to oval red lagoons along with comma, hairpin-like vessels. Dermoscopy is beneficial in distinguishing angioma serpiginosum from purpuric dermatoses.
4. Methods: Patients with Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) who refer to Razi Hospital from 2001-2011 have chosen to study. HHV8 DNA was extracted from paraffin blocks and amplification of the virus genome was performed by PCR method. Finally, the desired DNA fragment was used to sequencing and genotype determination. The amount of virus genotype at different stages of KS was determined.
Results: PCR was performed on 45 samples and positive PCR results in 35 cases, negative in 7 cases and low product in 3 cases were obtained. Sequencing was performed on samples from 28 patients who had positive results in PCR. Results were 20 cases with genotype C, 7 cases with genotype A and one case was negative, consistent with other studies in our geographical area. No correlation was found between the different microscopic grades with HHV-8 genotypes.
Conclusion: Since the HHV-8 is obtained in almost 100% of KS lesions and PCR Sensitivity in detection of the virus is close to 100%, KS diagnosis can be confirmed in suspicious cases by detection of HHV-8 DNA on paraffin blocks. Moreover the prevalence of HHV8 genotype was determined in Iran.

The Congress Reporting Form
How many volunteers were present at the Congress? : About 400 participant
Delegates from which countries presented in the congress? : Japan, Austria, USA, Greece, Thailand, Brazil, United Kingdom, Italy, Turkey, Iran, Switzerland, Germany, France, Colombia, Egypt, Spain, Romania.
Were the delegates of any other organizations present in the congress? : No
If yes, please write the names of the organizations in the box :
What were the responses to your talking points? Were specific questions or concerns raised? : An article with the title of "new dermoscopy clue of angioma serpeginosum" was interesting for some participants. Also there is the first article on genotyping of Human herpes virus 8 (HHV8) in Kaposi's sarcoma in Iran which presented in the symposium.
If you met staff members, please list their full names & positions. : Giovanni Borroni(Italy), Jean Kanitakis (France), Pedram Gerami(USA), Werner Kempf(Switzerland), Eduardo Calonje(United Kingdom), Heinz Kutzner (Germany), Lorenzo Cerroni(Austria), Philip E. Le Boit(USA), Daniela Massi(Italy),Werner Kempf(Switzerland), Nicola Pimpinelli (Italy).
Please inform us if there are any follow up actions we need to talk with the members of the congress : If so, a symposium held in dermatopathology will be very good because we have great facilities and scientists in this field and also we have intelligence colleagues with "Dermatopathology International Board Certificate" which could have collaboration with other international dermatopathology centers around the world. It will be very interesting if we can invite some of them for a "congress in dermatopathology" in Iran. Some of dermatopathology heroes denoting follow:
Giovanni Borroni (Italy), Pedram Gerami (USA), Eduardo Calonje (United Kingdom), Heinz Kutzner (Germany), Lorenzo Cerroni (Austria), Nicola Pimpinelli (Italy).
Your experiences about the travel processes(Providing ticket, accommodation,...) : It was a very good experience, two years ago I participate at this conference in Switzerland, but now I was thinking of new content and a usable one.
Please give a briefing of your own observations and outcomes of the congress: : The content is updated and will be referred to below:
INFLAMMATORY AND NEOPLASTIC SKIN PATHOLOGY
TOUGH ADNEXAL TUMORS
CHALLENGING INFLAMMATORY DERMATOSES
OPPORTUNITIES WITH NOVEL ANTIBODIES AND SPECIAL
STAINS
MELANOMA: MORPHOLOGY, GENES AND MORE
CONFOCAL MICROSCOPY, DIGITAL
DERMATOPATHOLOGY AND TELEPATHOLOGY
FOCUS ON IMMUNOINTERVENTION IN MELANOMA
NEW MOLECULAR TESTS FOR MELANOMA DIAGNOSIS
AND THERAPY
Melanoma is one of the topics discussed and the new diagnostic techniques such as IF, FISH AND MUTATIONAL ANALYSES was interesting. Also new method for reporting non-melanoma skin cancers was an interesting topics. Another interesting content was "Challenging inflammatory dermatoses" that in some cases the diagnosis of skin diseases is very difficult without the help of clinical impressions.
