1.Brief summary of Leave :

my research efforts was the study of iron acquisition systems in the important Gram-negative bacterial human pathogens Neisseria meningitidis and Moraxella catarrhalis and Moraxella bovis. More specifically, the research was focused on characterizing the surface receptor proteins required for acquiring iron from the host iron-binding glycoprotein lactoferrin (Lf). The surface receptor consists of an integral outer membrane protein, Lf binding protein A (LbpA) and a surface anchored lipoprotein, LbpB. my project was to evaluate the binding properties of LbpB and its subdomains to human Lf as a published review had proposed a model for the binding complex that we believed was incorrect.

3.Acheivements(Publications,research,et.al.) :

recently the results of my research presented a poster at the 57th Canadian Society for Molecular Biosciences Conference in Banff Alberta http://www.csmb-scbm.ca/meetings/57th_annual_conference.aspx

4.Assessment of Value of Sabbatical leave(benefits,faculty development,future professional activities,...) :

our research will be published in high quality journal soon.The major goal of their program is the prevention of infections by bacteria that reside in the upper respiratory tract through vaccination. their laboratory is focused on development of new and improved vaccines through protein engineering and on developing new and novel methods for evaluating and predicting vaccine efficacy.they are also part of a cross-Canada study evaluating the efficacy of different immunization schedules for the meningococcal group C conjugate vaccine and a program evaluating the respiratory microbiome in children, adults and the elderly. . The project area that I most likely participate in is the development of a broadly cross-protective vaccine against Neisseria meningitidis in which and I collaborate with a post-doctoral fellow, a graduate student and an experienced technician.
