Title of the Congress : INTERNATIONAL FOOD CONGRESS Novel Approaches in Food
Industry
Title of your Abstract : Evaluation of the antibacterial activity of essential oil a of Quercus infectoria leaves on food-borne pathogenic bacteria.
country : Turkey
From : Monday, May 26, 2014
To : Thursday, May 29, 2014
Abstract(Please copy/paste the abstract send to the congress) : Food-borne pathogens are group of micro-organisms that cause food-borne illness thus, the research for finding effective natural product against this infection is necessary. The purpose of this study was to determine antibacterial activity of essential oil Quercus infectoria against some important food borne bacteria.
In this study, antibacterial activity of extracts and essential oil was evaluated against bacteria (Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Yersinia entercolitica, Salmonella typhi and Vibrio cholera ( using disc diffusion method. Then broth micro-dilution method was used to determine their minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC). The data was expressed as the mean and the standard deviation; and they were statistically analyzed by ANOVA using SPSS software (P<0.05).
Result showed that essential oil of Quercus infectoria was found to be the most effective against B. cereus strains (inhibition zone=8.85±0.33 mm) than Yersinia entercolitica strains (inhibition zone=7.15 ±0.25mm). The MIC values of the essential oil against B. cereus were 0.256 µg/ml and against salmonella typhi was 0.1024µg/ml.
Essential oil of Quercus infectoria leave showed a good antimicrobial activity against food borne pathogens. Therefore, they can be used in food preservation systems to inhibit the growth of these bacteria and improve food quality.

What were the responses to your talking points? Were specific questions or concerns raised? : There was not a specific question. But I met chair and I thanked him for the hard work and planning in Congress. particularly on traveling
If you met staff members, please list their full names & positions. : Imeet Mr Dr kamkar and Dr misaghi from veterinary faculty of Tehran University. But , I could see many people from different countries which unfortunately I don't know them.
But note that in the last few days in Congress, I met some colleagues from different countries.
Please inform us if there are any follow up actions we need to talk with the members of the congress : Thanks of deputy of international university and colleges.
There is no need to follow up. That was a congress on food materials and has finished now so no need to follow up anything. I didn't find them in a level to be eligible to for example invited to our country. Most of them were students and the professors were on normal level. I can say that the best speakers were from Iran.
Your experiences about the travel processes(Providing ticket, accommodation,...) : I went to a travel agency for a flight ticket 25 days before traveling and got tickets at cheap prices. Also, get accommodation in Turkey by same agency. It was my 2th trip for congress to turkey (I think) so I had no problem.Every thing was OK.
Please give a briefing of your own observations and outcomes of the congress: : Mostly persons from different country were there and that was interesting for me. It was a good experience for all. A negative point of the congress was its long time duration at the afternoon which took more than 4 hrs in one session! The quality of presentation was not bad but no good as Asia – European country. However the reception was OK. I think the situation of Turkey caused many people tend to come there. So I can say that the number of participants in the congress was immense. And in general I can say that people from many countries were involved in the Congress.
