1.Brief summary of Leave : Beginning from August 1st 2013 until June 30th 2014, I stayed as a visiting scholar at the department of bioethics at the Clinical Center of the National Institutes of Health in Washington DC, USA. During my sabbatical leave I got engaged indifferent aspects of the wide variety of activities of the abovementioned department. These activities included – but not limited to – the following ones:
1- Participating in scholar and academic activities of the department, including :
a. lecture series for fellows, 
b. Weekly journal clubs, 
c. Ethical grand rounds
d. Joint Bioethics Colloquium with the Georgetown University;
2- Working on my project titled “Ethical Issues in Biomedical Research on Human Subject " under supervision of Professor Christine Grady;
3- Publishing or drafting several articles including:
a. A Brief History of Biomedical Research Ethics in Iran: Published in Developing World Bioethics
b. In Defense of a Regulated system of Compensated Human Egg Donation for Research: Accepted in the Journal of Medical Ethics and History of Medicine
c. A comparative legal analysis on Brain Death, with Seema Shah: Drafted
d. Cultural diversity and Research Infirmed Consent, Drafted
e. An Islamic Perspective on the Ethical Status of Human Embryo: Drafted
f. The Meaning and Implications on Motherhood in Islamic Bioethics: Drafted
4- Giving several lectures at the department and other academic centers like the Morgan State University.
5- Compiling a proposal for developing a master program of research ethics in Tehran University of Medical Science for possible funding by the Fogarti International Center
6- Conducting an online course named Ethical and Regulatory Aspects of Clinical Research for Iranian students and researchers (specially PhD students of Medical Ethics) which was conducted from August until December 2013 and taught by a group of world-class professors of bioethics and at the end of the course, formal certificate was issued for participants.
7- At the same time, I was engaged in a wide array of activities in the Tehran University of Medical Sciences, including:
a. Ethical review of research proposals (more than 100 proposals) received by the deputy of research under the specialized committee of research ethics,
b. Supervising 2-unit course of medical ethics of medical student,
c. Translating and publishing a book titled: “physician and ethical considerations”
d. Revising and updating two chapters of a book titled “Organ Transplantation

After sabbatical:
I have delivered a lecture for faculty members and PhD students at the Medical Ethics and History of Medicine Research Center after returning from the sabbatical,
Also we are going to develop a master program on research ethics as a joint program between the TUMS, Duquesne University and the Fogarti International Center.
In addition to faculty development through delivering my findings in the future lectures and journal clubs, I am going to keep and strengthen the academic bonds developed between the MEHR and the NIH during my sabbatical leave hoping to continue to periodically organizing of lecture series or conferences in the future.
