Information of Congress
Title of the Congress : Microbiology and Infection - 4th Joint Congress of DGHM and VAAM
Title of your Abstract : Comparative proteomic profiling of Leishmania tropica: Investigation of a case infected with cutaneous and concomitant viscerotropic leishmaniasis by 2-dimentional electrophoresis and Mass Spectrometry
country : Germany
From : Sunday, October 5, 2014
To : Wednesday, October 8, 2014
Abstract(Please copy/paste the abstract send to the congress) : Viscerotropic leishmaniasis caused by Leishmania tropica poses a significant problem in the diagnosis and treatment management. This infection differs from classical visceral leishmaniasis caused by L. infantum in terms of clinical pathology. Since differential gene expression is more important in outcome of the infection, we employed proteomic approach to identify potential proteins involved in visceralization of L. tropica. The proteomes profiling of L. tropica isolated from cutaneous and visceral tissues of one host were compared by 2-DE/MS proteomics study. Of the 700 protein spots that were detected reproducibly on each gel, 135 were found to be differentially expressed (P≤ 0.05). Most of responsive proteins in visceral isolate changed in less abundant compared to cutaneous isolate. Among differentially expressed proteins, 56 proteins were confidently identified and classified according to the biological process. The largest groups consist of proteins involved in carbohydrate metabolism and protein synthesis. Most of the identified proteins which implicated in energy metabolism, cell signaling and virulence were down-regulated, whereas some proteins that have a role in protein folding, antioxidant defense and proteolysis were up-regulated in visceral form. Moreover, the transcript level of some identified proteins such as co-chaperon was confirmed using real-time RT-PCR. Our results suggest that L. tropica probably uses different mechanisms for survival and multiplication in viscera to establish viscerotropic leishmaniasis. The current study, provide some clues into the mechanisms underlying the dissemination of L. tropica.

The Congress Reporting Form
How many volunteers were present at the Congress? : About 1200 persons
Delegates from which countries presented in the congress? : From all of the European countries like France, Italy, Norway, Belgium and ....
Were the delegates of any other organizations present in the congress? : Yes
If yes, please write the names of the organizations in the box : The German Research Foundation (DFG), the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and
What were the responses to your talking points? Were specific questions or concerns raised? : My presentation was as poster. Some participants showed interest to my work and I found the chance to introduce the research I do to some of them in the poster presentation day.
If you met staff members, please list their full names & positions. : According to the title of congress, most of scientiest participations were microbiologist .
Please inform us if there are any follow up actions we need to talk with the members of the congress : No, I dont think there are any important follow up actions we need to talk with the members of congress. The only item that we could discuss in the suitable time, was is the language of the congress. The cngress language was in english in the site but unfortunately most of lectures presented in German , and we could use more the posters and medical exhibitions beside the congress. Credible companies which produce kits and laboratory instruments. These companies introduced their latest products such as their latest diagnostic kits and modern laboratory instruments to the scientists that participated in this conference.
Your experiences about the travel processes(Providing ticket, accommodation,...) : In the journey we encounter some problems like providing the ticket or booking the hotels, delay in flight and so on.
We don’t have credit cards. So, I wanted you, the university handle in such situation for more rearrangement .
Please give a briefing of your own observations and outcomes of the congress: : The microbiology conference in which more than 1800 scientists from almost all of the European countries and some of the Asian countries participated took place in Dresden, Germany. Dresden is the capital city of the free state of Saxony in Germany and is situated in a valley on the River Elbe. The conference was held in the congress center of Dresden which is beside the Elbe river and had the perfect view of this beautiful river. Just next to this river, the fourth joint conference of the German Society for Hygiene and Microbiology (DGHM) was held on the dates from fifth to eighths of October. I participated and presented my research in this conference in a poster.
The title was "Comparative Proteomic Profiling of Leishmania tropica: Investigation of a case infected with a simultaneous cutaneous and viscerotropic Leishmaniasis by 2-DE and Mass Spectrometry". The participants showed interest to my work and I found the chance to introduce the research I do to some of them in the poster presentation day. The other papers which were presented in this conference were extremely diverse and almost covered all the aspects of the microbial infectious diseases such as Gastrointestinal Pathogens, General and Hospital Hygiene, Genomics and Metagenomics Host-Microbe Interactions, Infection Epidemiology and Population Genetics Infection Immunology, Intracellular Transport and Secretion Metabolism and Metabolic Networks/Microbial Cell Biology Microbial Diversity and Ecology, etc.
The methods used in the presented papers were all modern methods using sophisticated new technologies. The presenters presented their work in the best way possible and I found the opportunity to get to know some new and modern approaches. Most of the methods were in the field of diagnosis of infectious diseases.
One of the most important aspects of this congress was the participation of well known scientists in the technical fields. Moreover, a huge number of credible companies which produce kits and laboratory instruments. These companies introduced their latest products such as their latest diagnostic kits and modern laboratory instruments to the scientists that participated in this conference. Fortunately, I found the opportunity to have some talks with the prominent scientists and the accredited companies about the scientific exchanges and potential future collaborations in scientific fields such as disease diagnosis.Another point that should be taken into account about this conference is the discipline in holding the congress.
One could say that despite the huge number of attendants and speakers, a very fine discipline and order was kept in the speeches which were held in well equipped halls. The posters were also presented in a certain discipline and the places considered for them were proper and visible to the people in a way that one could just see all the works and it was impossible to miss any of it. The conference program was notified to the attendants in a well manner and generally I could say that it was a high quality conference in which the latest progresses in infectious diseases were presented and the discipline from which Germany is famous for could be felt all over this conference.
