Information of Congress
Title of the Congress : 2015 2nd International Conference on Environmental Systems Research (ICESR 2015)
Title of your Abstract : Risk Assessment of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis in an Endemic Area, Central Iran
Destination Country : Thailand
From : Friday, December 25, 2015
To : Saturday, December 26, 2015
Abstract(Please copy/paste the abstract send to the congress) : Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is one of the 10 infectious disease priorities in the world, and the first in the case of morbidity in Iran. Current study was conducted to assess the risk of CL and to study some epidemiological aspects of the disease in Central Iran. This study was conducted during 2013-14 in Qom Province. Different data layers, including spatial distribution of vector, reservoir, and human cases, environmental and climatologically variables which seem to affect on CL transmission were prepared and stored in a spatial database created in ArcGIS. MaxEnt 3.3.3 model was used to determine the suitable ecological niches for main vector and reservoir at the province level. Finally, spatial analysis and clustering methods were applied in ArcGIS to find hot spots and susceptible areas for establishing new foci of the disease. During 2009-13, a total of 1767 CL cases were recorded in the study area. From these cases, 979 were living in urban areas and the remaining in rural areas. Most of recorded human cases in Qom city had a history of travel to the endemic areas of CL within the province or to the endemic areas of the disease in Iran. Spatial distribution of CL cases across the province showed north-eastern and south-western quarters of Qom city were hot spots of the disease (P<0.05), while hot spots of the province (excluding Qom city) gradually become closer to Qom city from 2009 to 2013. Phlebotomus papatasi and Meriones libycus were found to be the vector and reservoir of CL in the study area. Overlaying layers with probability of presence for both vector and reservoir on the risk of CL incidence was as a result of finding high risk areas in the province. Hot spot and risk analysis across the province showed more than 40 villages were relocating to areas with high and very high levels of risk in the case of CL transmission. Due to existing few cases without any travel history as well as finding hot spots (P<0.05) of CL in some quarters of Qom city, the disease seems to be transmitted in the city as well. Therefore, it is necessary to do a comprehensive study on CL in hot spots to clear the situation of CL in Qom city. Priority should be given to prevention and control programs in hot spot areas.

The Congress Reporting Form
How many volunteers were present at the Congress? : 35
Delegates from which countries presented in the congress? : Thailand, China, UAE, Australia, Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Austria, Iran, Algeria, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Indonesia
Were the delegates of any other organizations present in the congress? : No
If yes, please write the names of the organizations in the box :
What were the responses to your talking points? Were specific questions or concerns raised? : Really there was no specific questions, but in my presentation i spoke about the risk analysis of an important vector borne disease. The conference was multidisciplinary and there were few specialists on my subject.
If you met staff members, please list their full names & positions. : Prof. Win Chaechomsri, Dept of Zoology, Faculty of Sciences, Kasetsart Univ, Bangkok, Thailand
Please inform us if there are any follow up actions we need to talk with the members of the congress : Really not. But it will be interesting if the international campus of TUMS provide the staff who attend the international conferences, a CD of brochure containing the activities of TUMS and fields of interests for joint researches. A big issue for participating in European, Australian and American conferences, that are more scientific rather Asian, is the limitation of financial supports. Every year there are Specialized and profitable Congress in my field of interest (GIS), but costs and sometime VISA are big issues. In July 2015 I had an accepted paper for presentation in Greece, but I couldn’t receive the visa. It will be grateful if TUMS facilitate the visa process for the staff. As you know an official letter is not enough and it is necessary to establish an office for this big issue in the university.
Your experiences about the travel processes(Providing ticket, accommodation,...) : I took a travel tour to Thailand. They covered visa, ticket and hotel. There was no problem.
Please give a briefing of your own observations and outcomes of the congress: : It was my first time to attend a multidisciplinary conference. In such meetings there is opportunity to get acquainted with people with different expertise. This will form new research ideas even in other fields of interests, give opportunity to communicate with scientists with new expertise and may result to design and do jointed projects in future. Overall, the conference was held, focusing on the environment. One of the conference was the application of Geographical information system (GIS) and I gave my speech on this axis.
