Title of your Abstract : Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Exercises of Upper Extremities Assessment using Microsoft Kinect Sensor and Color Marker in a Virtual Reality Environment
Destination Country : Italy
From : Thursday, September 15, 2016
To : Friday, September 16, 2016
Abstract(Please copy/paste the abstract send to the congress) : Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Exercises are a series of stretching techniques that are commonly used in rehabilitation and exercise therapy. Assessment of these exercises for true maneuvering requires extensive experience in this field and could not be down with patients themselves. In this paper, we developed software that uses Microsoft Kinect sensor, a spherical color marker, and real-time image processing methods to evaluate patient’s performance in generating true patterns of movements. The software also provides the patient with a visual feedback by showing his/her avatar in a Virtual Reality environment along with the correct path of moving hand, wrist and marker. Primary results during PNF exercise therapy of a patient in a room environment shows the ability of the system to identify any deviation of maneuvering path and direction of the hand from the one that has been performed by an expert physician.

The Congress Reporting Form
How many volunteers were present at the Congress? : 100
Delegates from which countries presented in the congress? : Germany, England, Switzerland, Italy, Malaysia
Were the delegates of any other organizations present in the congress? : Yes
If yes, please write the names of the organizations in the box : TUM
What were the responses to your talking points? Were specific questions or concerns raised? : A number of studies have used the Kinect sensor for quantifying the physical postures in various settings and during different activities such as exercising, walking, and running [4]-[10]. Kim et al. used it for evaluating the performance of subjects in PNF. They implemented a machine learning algorithm and trained it with the joints position data from eight normal students, each of which performed the PNF stretching 30 times, to create software that is capable of detecting the correctness of exercises executed by a subject.

Please inform us if there are any follow up actions we need to talk with the members of the congress : World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology (WASET) is a scholarly open science, peer reviewed, interdisciplinary, monthly and fully referred international research journal focusing on theories, methods and applications in Science, Engineering and Technology. WASET serves as a forum for scholarly intellectual exchange and as a platform to present cutting-edge research. WASET aims to maintain prompt editorial procedure to initiate and expedite the peer review process, which lies at the core of science and scholarly life and has long been the mechanism for ensuring high quality research and contributing to future directions in the field and in industry. The WASET peer review process protects scholarly literature from the pollution of erroneous claims and assures that the journal acts as a repository of information relevant to the discipline. Thus, selectivity based on the peer review process ensures that the material is correct, as well as relevant, original, and well written for the audience. All submitted articles are peer reviewed within approximately three months of submission and accepted full text articles are published on the Internet, free-of-charge, as soon as the final version is received. WASET Open Science represents a new approach to the scientific process, based on cooperative work and novel ways of disseminating knowledge through the use of digital technologies and innovative collaborative tools. WASET enables the fast circulation of high quality scientific and technical information freely available worldwide.
