Information of Congress
Title of the Congress : 25th EPICOH, Epidemiology in Occupational Health Conference
Title of your Abstract : Optimization of dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction for trace analysis of salivary melatonin as a biomarker of circadian rhythm related to the shift work
Destination Country : Spain
From : Saturday, September 3, 2016
To : Friday, September 9, 2016
Abstract(Please copy/paste the abstract send to the congress) : “Melatonin” (N-acetyl-methoxytryptamine) is secreted from a part of the brain called suprakiasmic nuclui. This hormone has the highest level of secretion at night and the lowest during the day. The biological clock of the body or the circadian rhythm is regulated through the secretion of hormones such as melatonin and cortisol. Disturbance in circadian rhythm is specifically connected with shift working. Melatonin is known as a good biomarker to show circadian rhythm irregularities. So, in most studies it is used to determine the degree of disturbance in circadian rhythm due to shift working in occupational health. Through this study, the dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction (DLLME) was optimized for the analysis of human salivary melatonin. Different variables including extracting solvent, dispersing solvent, volume of extracting solvent, volume of dispersing solvent, sample pH, sample ionic strength, extraction time, and centrifugation time were screened using one factor at a time design (OFAT) and then, the significant variables were selected as optimum values. Optimum conditions were: extracting solvent (CCl4) 200 ml, dispersing solvent (AcN) 2 ml, sample pH 7.00, sample ionic strength 5% , extraction time 3 min, and centrifugation time at 4500 rpm 6 min. To validate achieved procedure, accuracy and precision of the optimized method was evaluated at three concentrations of 50, 100, 250 pg.ml-1. Based on this evaluation, CV% of 6.29, 2.39, 1.82 were achieved respectively for day-to-day reproducibility as well as CV% of 4.49, 2.68, 1.83 at the same three concentrations respectively for within-day reproducibility. Considering the appropriate results of the study, dispersing liquid-liquid microextraction procedure (DLLME) can be used for preparation of trace melatonin hormone in saliva samples as a biomarker of circadian rhythm of shift workers in field of occupational health.
Keywords of your Abstract : melatonin, circadian rhythm, dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction, one factor at a time, saliva, HPLC

The Congress Reporting Form
How many volunteers were present at the Congress? : Approximately more than 600 participants were attended in the Conference
Delegates from which countries presented in the congress? : I think delegates were from all over the world including Europe, Asia, America Australia and Africa countries. Actually there is no any complete list available in the Conference book.
Were the delegates of any other organizations present in the congress? : Yes
If yes, please write the names of the organizations in the box : American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hyginists (ACGIH), Occupational Safety and HealthOrganization (OSHA), National Institute of Safety and Health (NIOSH) and some other commercial privaite sectors
What were the responses to your talking points? Were specific questions or concerns raised? : The title of my presentation (poster) was optimization of dispensed liquid liquid extraction technique for salivary melatonin as a biomarker of circadian rhythm related to the shift work. The area of study was interesting for some delegates who interested in method development of sample preparation and number of delegate asked me for the optimization factors I concentrated on through my research. As I took many "off prints" of my paper, so, I passed prints to them who wanted to go through the details.
If you met staff members, please list their full names & positions. : As I had performed any administrative necessities before meeting the conference, there was no need to visit any staff. Just I registered physically myself and took the conference badge and entered the conference area and halls.
Please inform us if there are any follow up actions we need to talk with the members of the congress :
Your experiences about the travel processes(Providing ticket, accommodation,...) : As I have lots of experience of attending in the international conferences, therefore, I did everything needed beforehand, so, all things were organized OK by myself, including tickets, accommodation, etc.
Please give a briefing of your own observations and outcomes of the congress: : The 25th Epidemiology in Occupational Health e (EPICOH) conference was very well organized this year in Barcelona, Spain, 4-7 September 2016. This conference is normally taken place every two years and is scientifically relevant to my expertise (Occupational Toxicology) and I usually try to attend in this event. The latest scientific developments in the area of Occupational Health are discussed in the Conference. Regarding the scope of the Conference, different aspects of scientific communications were considered to be presented including: early morning sessions (6 cases), plenary sessions (6 cases), six parallel oral presentations depending of the different subjects (48 presentations), posters (347 presentations), symposia (14 cases), and workshops (3 cases). Therefore, everything was well scientific and useful for delegates from all over the world based on their scientific interests. It is worth mentioning that, such programming and organization can be scheduled for our scientific events especially for the national and international conferences in Iran too. However, for such scientific events, adequate financial sources are necessarily needed. Moreover, lots of fasciitis for delegates were also well organized. Addressing to reach the right places on time, transportations, break times, lunches based on delegates wish (vegetarian or normal food) as well as the guidance persons and general information desk were other facilities run during the conference time. However, there were some other gathering sessions called ceremonies or conference dinner/parties….., in which, I did not attended as culturally were not suitable for us as Muslim people. There were different city tours for participants (majority of them were taken place at the off time of the conference periods, in which, delegates did enjoy getting them too. In addition, different relevant commercial sectors presented their scientific products which were most welcomed very well by the participants in the conference area during the whole event time.
The 25th EPICOH covered all major scientific topics of current epidemiological research on occupational health including:
Allergies, Asbestos and other fibers, Burden of disease, Cancer, Cardio-metabolic disorders, Chemical and physical exposures, Child labor, Dermal exposure, Disease surveillance, e-Occupational Health, Endocrine disruption chemicals, Environmental exposure assessment, Ergonomic factors, Ergonomic risk factors for adverse pregnancy outcomes, Ethics, Exposure science, Exposure assessment, Exposure biomarkers, Exposure modeling, Exposures and musculoskeletal disorders, Gene-environmental interaction in reproductive health, Genetic epidemiology, Global occupational health, Health insurance and compensation, Healthy aging and work, Healthy worker effect, Healthy workplaces, Industrial hygiene, Infections, Injuries, Interventions at the workplace, Labor market and employment conditions, Labor trajectories and permanent disability, Male mediated developmental toxicity, Methodology and statistics, Migrant workers, Musculoskeletal disorders, Neurological effects, Noise, Novel exposure assessment devices and methods, Occupational health guidelines and regulations, Pesticides, Physical activity, Prevention, Psychosocial exposures at work, Psychosocial outcomes and stress at work, Radiation, ionizing and non-ionizing, Reproductive and developmental effects, Reproductive hazards in developing countries, Reproductive health in the electronics industry, Respiratory diseases, Risk assessment, Safety knowledge, Shift work, Sickness absence, Social protection and health, Socioeconomic status and health, Spatiotemporal patterns in exposure, Surveys of working conditions, Women's work and health.
I tried to cover tings I observed during the conference time.
