ECO2018, the 25th European Congress on Obesity, has been took place in Vienna, Austria from 23rd to 26th May 2018. The program of congress included Teaching sessions which were hold on the first day of the congress. There were three teaching sessions conducted by EASO and the other one was Joint session with TOS. Moreover the congress had several oral and review sessions all around obesity and its management. Most of participants were bariatric surgeons and had their presentations on new procedures for controlling obesity. Health professionals presented their research mostly on the importance of physical activity in weight management. There were also special attentions to children. For example a symposium was advocated to “obesity in children”. Diet therapy and Nutrition also has been taken to account by nutritionists. One the interesting lectures has been presented by “John Speakman” who is very famous in Energy metabolism and weight control. His presentation was an ecological study on the association of the number of fast foods restaurants and the prevalence of obesity in US. They did a spatial analysis and found that there was no association between the aforementioned exposure and outcome. Moreover, I met Dr. Mike Neal from University of Glasgow. He is head of department of Human Nutrition. His research area is obesity and diabetes. I had a friendly meeting with him and asked about “sabbatical leave” for PHD students. He was really welcoming persons especially because his first PHD student was from Iran and had great impression of Iranian. I also invited him to participate in the future National Congress of Nutrition. Several years ago he was in Iran and would like eagerly to be in Iran. One of the interesting parts of the congress was its exhibition. Among the sponsors, there were some booths dedicated to research groups to present their research’s findings. |
