The Congress Reporting
Please give a briefing of your own observations and outcomes of the congress : The Asia Pacific Medical Education Conference has grown and strengthened over the years. It is now in its 17th year attracting participants, not only from the Asia-Pacific region but also from around the globe. For APMEC 2020, about 1600 medical and healthcare professionals from over 38 countries had participated. Many academic staffs in all fields including basic sciences, clinical medicine, dentistry, pharmacy were attended as well as medical students from different countries. Just as in previous years, the APMEC conference includes a complex mixture of plenary, symposia, workshops, free and short communication. While it provides a wide list of options for participants with different interests and expertise, selecting appropriate sessions can be challenging. The focus of the conference this year is to share and discuss how best to face these challenges and develop ways to mitigate shortcomings in educating and training the next generation of healthcare professionals. I believe that the APMEC will offer a platform to share our experiences as educators and learn from experts in medical and healthcare professional practice and education the latest ideas, and best practices adopted internationally. This is also an opportunity for participants to discuss innovative ideas and concepts in medical and health professional education with experts. I had a short communication about the effects of introducing codes of conduct for cadaver dissection and the effects of the implementation of cinemedicine for teaching psychosocial subjects of medicine which we have held last year for our faculties. If I would reflect on it, it seems clear that we need more rigors on the evaluation of our interventions and also a better presentation preparation which should include even a brief overview of the theoretical background of the project and more details on the results. I attended the plenary sessions, all around the world, which professor Harden and professor Norcini have presented the novel topics in the best way. It gives me some new ideas to conduct some research at our university. In sum, In my opinion, I guess I would have to say there are a few clear benefits. But I would probably say that for the most part the one thing really stands out is that this is an enormous international conference in the field of medical education especially in Asia and there are many opportunities to learn how to use the best knowledge of medical education into practice. But I think it is fair to say that there are some challenges in participating at the APMEC conference. I believed that the most important difficulty would be that selecting appropriate sessions can be challenging especially without using Guidebook software. This year TUMS Participated with 1 faculty member (me) and 1 medical student (Mr. Hosseini Dolama) in APMEC 2010 which is the only team from an Iranian university in this well-known international meeting in Asia level. When compare to the total number of faculty members in TUMS and also in comparison with other countries show a major deficit in our representation in such an educational meeting. The high cost of the conference especially registration fees and difficulties in getting visa Singapore embassies in Iran could be considered as the major challenges which Iranian delegates faced.
