1.Brief summary of Leave : |
Since Jan 2022, I have worked in CIPF, Centro de Investigación Príncipe Felipe, Valencia, Spain. I have been involved in a project entitled “Molecular mechanisms of the neurological (cognitive and motor) alterations in hyperammonemia and hepatic encephalopathy. Therapeutic implications”. The Neurobiology group has two Labs; an animal lab and a human lab. In the animal lab, they work on rat brains especially Cerebellar and Hypothalamus tissues. |
2.List the objectives of your sabbatical leave as listed in your proposal and indicate how completely they were met : |
Objects 1. to learn different animal lab techniques 2. to be familiar with different types of animal models that are useful to consider the cell mechanisms involved in neurological disorders like Multiple Sclerosis. I have learned some lab skills like immunohistochemistry, ex vivo analysis technique in slices, and image analysis. Also, I have been involved in other projects running in the lab. In addition, I have designed an ex-vivo study. |
3.Acheivements(Publications,research,et.al.) : |
A project entitled "Investigating the effects of vitamin D on T cells balance in hyperammonemia rats: an ex-vivo study¨. |
4.Assessment of Value of Sabbatical leave(benefits,faculty development,future professional activities,...) : |
Recently, people of our country, Iran, have been experiencing economic recession, a depreciating currency, and high inflation. Reduced socioeconomic status, directly or indirectly, has also influenced education and research. Inadequate attention in research studies will lead to a defective cycle in public health as well as MS prevention, diagnosis, and treatment strategies. In addition to national problems, international sanctions are one of the barriers in research to collaborating with other MS centers and accessing new technologies and biomedical diagnosis methods. A very important component of this program is the contribution to international collaboration by enabling researchers to undertake research at centers outside of our country. I believe, it was a great opportunity for me to deepen my knowledge of the neurobiology field. The MS center is designing a new research biochemical and genetic laboratory and plans to cover most of the facilities necessary for basic science research in the MS field. For designing, I visited different laboratories that have standardized. During my sabbatical leave in Spain, I sought advice from professionals who worked in various labs, both human and animal. Also, learning genetic techniques and bioinformatic tools are helpful to predict a personalized approach for treating MS that become more widely applicable in recent years. I have two main goals. First, based on new experiments earned during the running project, I plan to improve the quality of the center research lab. Second, I would like to collaborate with other international Neurology departments that enable us to gain perspective on research and connect with others in the field of MS. |
