School of Dentistry, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, offers two new short-term certificate-based programs for those holding a high school (secondary education) diploma
1. Course name: Dental equipment technician program
Entrance requirement: High school (secondary education) diploma
Duration and type: Six-month certificate-based
Overview:
During this course, participants are provided with an overview of the dental equipment maintenance and repair. The course includes theory, chairside and hands-on training. The course will present the knowledge and skills needed to successfully manage maintenance of dental equipments and instruments.
With the knowledge and experience gained in this course, the participants will be able to:
· Identify basic maintenance requirements for both large and small equipment components.
· Diagnose and solve some of the most common problems of dental equipments.
· Identify and implement the cleaning and disinfection solutions recommended for use on dental equipments.
· Describe and implement the equipment maintenance requirements for dental office.
2. Course name: Oral and maxillofacial radiology technician program
Entrance requirement: High school (secondary education) diploma
Duration and type: Six-month certificate-based
Overview:
Basics of medical and dental imaging, basic principles of radiation health and safety practices, and fundamentals of maintenance of radiography equipments will be taught in this program. The course includes theory, chairside and hands-on training. The course will provide the participants with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully manage various types of X ray imaging systems used in dentistry.
With the knowledge and experience gained in this course, the participants will be able to:
· Describe principles of X ray imaging in dentistry.
· Perform various tapes of oral and maxillofacial radiographies.
· Describe and implement principles of radiation health and safety practices.
· Diagnose and solve some of the most common problems of in-office oral and maxillofacial imaging systems.
