Department of Medical Immunology

General Information

Immunology is the study of the immune system, and it enables the students to develop an understanding on what the immune system is and how it works. In more detail, immunology allows students to have a better understanding of the immune system at various depths ranging from molecules, genes, cells, tissues, organs, and their involvement in health and diseases. Immunology is suited for students from clinical and non-clinical backgrounds. This would enable students to boost their prospectus and develop their career within academia, the industry or as clinical scientists. 

 

A Brief History of the Department of Immunology

The Department of Immunology at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) was established in 1951 and was composed of the three programs of microbiology, parasitology and serology. In 1989, the department was renamed to the Department of Immunology. Many great scientists with renowned research endeavours and inventions of novel immunological diagnostic tests have been and are members of this department.

The department is committed to both cutting-edge research as well as high quality teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate medical degrees. There is a great team of faculty members that work along with the students in order to make this a reality.
