Department of Cardiology

The Department of Cardiology is one of the largest departments of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS). It was a subgroup of the Department of Internal Medicine until 1997, and after that, cardiology separated as an independent department.

Imam Khomeini’s cardiology ward is the oldest in Iran and is the first approved training center for cardiology residents and interventional cardiology fellowship in the country.

Many of the new diagnostic and therapeutic modalities were performed in this ward as the first center in Iran (procedures like coronary angioplasty, mitral valvuloplasty, etc.)

Cardiology wards are committed to provide excellent education and training course to medical students, interns, residents and fellows in general hospitals including Imam Khomeini, Dr. Shariati, Sina, Amir Alam, and since 2007 in the Tehran Heart Center.
