The German-Iranian Cooperation presents:

International Summer School on Epidemiology

19 August – 08 September 2017, Tehran, Iran

 

Introduction

IDEE (Iranisch-Deutsches Epidemiologie Engagement) is a German-Iranian initiative to strengthen international cooperation in Field Epidemiology Training and public health. In line with this initiative, a three-week summer school at the School of Public Health of Tehran University of Medical Science (TUMS) will be conducted with faculty members of both TUMS and three German institutes from Hamburg, namely the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine, the University Clinics Hamburg-Eppendorf, and the University of Applied Sciences, Hamburg.

 

Programme Objectives                               

  • To provide basic understanding and training regarding control of infectious diseases and prevention with the aim of responding to emerging and current public health threats;
  • To intensify and sustain international cooperation and networking capacity in the fields of epidemiology, microbiology, public health, and  outbreak investigation;
  • To provide a better understanding for study designs in epidemiological research.
  • To provide a field work to implement training materials regarding infectious disease surveillance and prevention in a simulated situation.

 

Course Leadership

This course will be conducted under the supervision of the Office of Vice-Dean for International Affairs, TUMS School of Public Health, in collaboration with the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics, TUMS School of Public Health, Tehran, Iran, and the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine, Hamburg, Germany.

 

Eligibilty for Participation

  • Work experience of at least 2 years in the field of Public Health;
  • Health personnel, preferably engaged in infectious diseases and a degree or proficiency in:

o   Public Health;

o   Veterinary/Human Medicine;

o   Epidemiology;

o   Microbiology;

o   Biology;

o   Environmental health sciences

o   Related social science disciplines.

  • The applicant should be familiar with basic epidemiological and biostatistical principles and techniques.
  • Fluency in English

 

Application Requirements

To apply for the programme, filling in “TUMS Online Application Form” and uploading high-quality scans of the following documents are required:

  1. A passport-size photograph
  2. A letter of motivation (maximum of 300 words)
  3. A detailed and relevant C.V.
  4. A Master’s degree or equivalent in health sciences along with the complete transcript of all records
  5. Proof of English proficiency
  6. A copy of passport’s main pages
  7. A letter of recommendation from your current employer/ An endorsement document of the current employer, stating your leave of absence from work in the indicated period

 

The tuition fee of €300 is required upon acceptance.

What is included in the course fee?

The course fees include the registration fee and course materials. 

What is not included in the course fee?

The fee does not include accommodation, travel costs, transfer cost, dining, insurance and other costs.

 

  • Five participants will be offered scholarships. Applicants who desire to apply for a scholarship are advised to submit a separate motivation letter in which they explain the reasons why they believe they are entitled to receive a scholarship.
  • The organizers will facilitate visa application for successful participants. The participants are required to apply for a visa as per future instructions.
  • TUMS School of Public Health will offer participants the opportunity to take field visits in Iran.
  • The deadline for application is April 15th .
  • Acceptance letters to successful applicants will be sent out by the end of May 2017.
