Department of Urology

For more than 70 years, all medical students in Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) have been receiving training in urology. Essentials of urology that every medical student should know before graduating from medical school have been considered in a standardized curriculum, and all students will learn the key principles and practices in urology necessary for every practicing physician to know and apply throughout their medical careers.



Urology is a surgical specialty pertinent to disorders of male and female urinary tract and the male reproductive organs. A wide variety of clinical problems are dealt with in urology and in addition to surgical skills, knowledge of internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology etc. is also required. 



The Department of Urology at TUMS School of Medicine provides a complete range of urologic sub-specialties including urologic oncology, reconstructive urology, pediatric urology, endourology, andrology, and kidney transplantation. 


Our team, consisting of full-time and part-time faculty members, post-graduate residents, and fellows, has been devoted to providing exceptional, personalized patient-care. TUMS urologists have found many improvements in the treatment of various urological disorders. Our internationally acclaimed urologists are also involved in various innovative basic and clinical research programs. The Department of Urology is divided into the following five centers focusing on different urological subspecialties:


  1. Imam Khomeini Hospital, Urology Ward: Center for Comprehensive Urologic Oncology
  2. Sina Hospital, Urology Ward 1: Center of Endourology and Laparoscopic Urology)
  3. Sina Hospital, Urology Ward 2: Center of Kidney Transplantation
  4. Shariati Hospital, Urology Ward: Center of Andrology
  5. Children’s Medical Center, Center of Excellence for Pediatric Urology


TUMS has also pioneered many advances in the field of urology, and, currently, three prestigious research centers affiliated to the department have expanded the opportunities for faculty members, post-graduate residents, and fellows:

  3. Uro-Oncology Research Center
