Clinical HIV/AIDS fellowship is a clinical course originated from the field of infectious diseases in which the graduates are involved in prevention, diagnosis, management, and care of patients with HIV/AIDS infection and who provide the society with their knowledge and expertise in the areas of education, research, and health services.

 

 

Program Description

Clinical HIV/AIDS fellowship is a clinical course originated from the field of infectious diseases in which the graduates are involved in prevention, diagnosis, management, and care of patients with HIV/AIDS infection and who provide the society with their knowledge and expertise in the areas of education, research, and health services.
Since 1981 when the first cases of people with HIV/AIDS were diagnosed in the world and since 1986 when the first HIV/AIDS patient was reported in Iran, this infection has rapidly increased in the world and with several years of delay in Iran, and the number of HIV/AIDS patients is considerably increasing. In most developed countries, infectious and tropical diseases is a sub-specialty of internal medicine. The internists admitted to the fellowship of infectious and tropical diseases spend a quarter of their fellowship course on HIV/AIDS.

 

Program Objectives

To train up-to-date specialists, who are competent, accountable, and sensitive to the health of individuals and society in the specialized field of HIV/AIDS and who will provide the society with their expertise in the areas of prevention, diagnosis, treatment, education, and research.

Method(s) of Instruction

During this course, various methods and techniques will be used:

  • Various intra- and intersectoral, hospital, interdisciplinary and inter-university conferences as well as seminars
  • Discussion in small groups, workshops, journal clubs and reading groups as well as Case Presentation
  • Participation in HIV outpatient clinics, voluntary counselling, and Testing Center
  • Participation in training lower ranks
  • Self-Education, Self-Study
  • Other training methods and techniques according to the requirements and objectives

Who Can Attend?

Individuals holding an M.D. or M.B.B.S. degree with an approved specialty in Infectious Diseases or Internal Medicine.

The eligible candidate have successfully completed, an approved infectious diseases residency program.
