Title of Abstract : Cross-talk between Cancer Stem Cells and Metastatic Niche, Emerging Metastasis Pathway?

http://ww2.aievolution.com/acm1301/index.cfm?do=abs.viewAbs&abs=1771
Venue : Phoenix, AZ, USA
From : Tuesday, March 19, 2013

Abstract(Please copy/pastethe abstract sending the congress) : Forming metastatic colonization represents final step of metastasis and is the major cause of cancer related mortality. Metastasis is quite an "inefficient" process which requires the right population of tumor cells in a suitable microenvironment to form secondary tumors. Cancer stem cells are the only population of tumor cells capable of progress to overt metastasis. On the other hand, occurrence of appropriate microenvironment conditions within the target tissue would be critical for metastasis formation. Metastatic niche is the specialized microenvironment that is believed to support tumor initiating cells at the distant organ. Key elements have been recently proposed to have pivotal roles in metastasis. Master transcription factors that determine cancer stem cell state and extracellular matrix key elements, sound like two sides of the metastasis coin. In this review, we propose a possible emerging metastasis pathway that connects cancer stem cell and metastatic niche formation to a number of key elements in breast cancer metastasis

Please make a note if there are any follow up actions we need to talk with the member of congress : First, it is crucial to avoid and warn on any single extension of the sanctions to academic and scientific based on OFAC agreement in the States.
Second, it seems to be necessary to reconsider the quality and quantity of financial aid (reimbursement) for participation of the faculty members in the International seminars/congresses due to the exchange rate inflation. Otherwise, it would be almost impossible and with a lot of hardship to attend such these seminars which are essential for academic activities.
Your experiences about the travel processes(Providing ticket, accommodation,...) : Good but exhausting, too long and multiple connections!
Meeting summary:(include: names of every one in attendance, outcomees and personal observatons of the metting, and please make a note if there are any follow up actions we need to take with the member of congress or their staff): : Annually in mid March, American College of Medical Genetics meeting occurs mostly in the convention center of a city in the north America. This year (2013) it was held in Phoenix, AZ, while most of the participants were from USA.

My 2 presentations did appeal to two scientific different groups: one from cancer institute of the Baylor College of Medicine (Texas) re the breast cancer stem cell; and the other by a colleague from university of Cincinnati (Ohio) regarding the mutational profile and panel of SLC4A1 in the patients involved in distal renal tubular acidosis (dRTA) and other nephrogenetic panels which are available in Iran resulting in an interest to establish a collaboration.

Most of the presentations focoused on the new molecular genetics techniques including WGA, NGS, and exome sequencing, and their applications in modern molecular medicine.
