Background: Traumatic spinal cord injury causes 11000 new hospitalizations in United States. More than 240,000 American patients live with disabilities induced by spinal cord injuries. It is estimated that more than 9.7 million dollar are devoted to these patients annually. The prevalence of spinal cord injury in Iran is reported to be 1/2 to 11/4 in 10000. Improved quality of life in recent decades has led to 40% mortality reduction in the first 2 years after spinal cord injury whereas no significant improvement in long term survival has been observed. Although Nutritional diet has a significant effect on exacerbation or improvement cardiac condition especially in weight-related factors but information about diet patterns in patients with SCI is limited
Objective: To evaluate their risk contribution to cardiovascular diseases and the potential impact of dietary therapies to alter these disorders and reduce cardiovascular disease risk.
Method: English language studies addressing prevalence of CVD risk factors in adults with chronic spinal cord injury. Our database sources were MEDLINE (PubMed), Cochrane Database through November 2012
Result: By considering this fact that muscular mass in chronic cases of SCI is substituted with fat tissue through time, the defined criteria of obesity (weight and BMI) are not suitable evaluating obesity in these patients. An important factor to design a suitable diet for these patients is to predict ‘energy requirement’ amount. But many problems can be mentioned in this field: 1. Energy expenditure and calorie requirement are dependent to level and duration of injury, patients metabolic condition, adrenergic hormonal function, body composition and patient’s physical activity. 2. The precise evaluation of body composition is whether impossible or is not performed routinely in patients with SCI. required tools such as indirect calorimeter are expensive and are not used routinely for patients with spinal cord injury.
Conclusion: By considering the different nutritional needs in patients and extensive differences in energy expenditure and basal metabolism, dietary interventions should be determined for individuals according to their specific needs. Generally followed factors should be considered when designing nutritional diet.
1. Lower level of required energy in patients with SCI
2. Dietary priorities
3. Cultural and religious limitations
4. Financial support
5. Individuals ability in supplying food

next congress about Neurorestoratology will be held in iran and until now we will try that it will be held excellent
Your experiences about the travel processes(Providing ticket, accommodation,...) : I visited some famous places & the price of tour was so expensive
Please give a briefing of your own observations and outcomes of the congress: : The people was participated at the congress was famuse at their feild, all of them had strong lectures & it was so usefull for me.we can share our data and documents in that congress.we can visit another researcher in another countries and share contact information of ours for next contribution. I can get more information about nourological science around the word and compare their results with ours.
congress was formation in 3 halls in 4 days . They had 2 sections in the morning, then break point and then another section before lunch. 2 sections were presented in afternoon and then break point and after that 2 another sections were presented.
