Title of the Congress : 16th International Congress of ESCAP
Title of your Abstract : Short time outcome predictors of Bipolar 1 disorder in Children and Adolescents
Country : Spain
From : Saturday, June 20, 2015
To : Wednesday, June 24, 2015
Abstract(Please copy/paste the abstract send to the congress) : Objectives: Cohort researches on youth bipolar disorder are limited. This study aimed to evaluate the three and six month clinical and demographic outcome predictors (recurrence rate, the rate of hospitalization, severity of illness and recovery rates) in a group of inpatient children and adolescents with type I bipolar disorders.
Method: In a longitudinal and prospective study, 80 youths admitted in the child and adolescent psychiatry ward at Roozbeh hospital were recruited. All the participants were diagnosed as having type I bipolar disorder. These consecutive referrals were evaluated at admission, discharge, and follow-up at 3 and 6 months, using demographic questionnaire, the Kiddie-Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia- Present and Lifetime Version-Persian Version (K-SADS-PL-PV),the Young Mania Rating Scale (Y-MRS), the Children Depression Inventory (CDI) for under 16 year-old, the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) for above16 year-old, and the Clinical Global Impression (CGI). The Pearson correlation coefficient and multivariate regressions were used for data analysis.
Results: The 6-month follow-up showed that there was a positive correlation between the severity of mania with male gender (p=0.01) and the severity of mania at admission (p=0.04). The rate of recurrence at the 6-month follow-up was correlated (p=0.05, r=0.22) with psychosis at admission. The duration of untreated disorder (p=0.03) had a positive correlation with the severity of global impairment at the 6 month follow-up.
Conclusion: This study confirms the role of some demographic and clinical features in predicting the course of disorder and the youth’s response to treatment.

How many volunteers were present at the Congress? : Unfortunately,I did not pay attention to the number of the participants.
Delegates from which countries presented in the congress? : Spain,England,France,Germany,Italy,Sweden,The USA,Australia,Canada
Were the delegates of any other organizations present in the congress? : Yes
If yes, please write the names of the organizations in the box : Spain academy of child and adolescent psychiatrists
What were the responses to your talking points? Were specific questions or concerns raised? : The major issue was on the status of child psychiatry in Iran.It was interesting for them that we as an Asian country participated at an European meeting. They gave me positive feedback on my scientific and interesting research because it was a kind of prospective study and evaluating the outcome of bipolar disorder in children and adolescents.
If you met staff members, please list their full names & positions. : I did not have any special meeting.
Please inform us if there are any follow up actions we need to talk with the members of the congress : I am not sure to understand the exact meaning of this question. As a member of the TUMS and the Iranian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry,I should say that we have tried several times to settle an international congress and although we had some invited guests from overseas but the situation was so difficult that the number of the foreign participants was very low.I think we need the support of the TUMS to promote our academic status in the scientific world.
Your experiences about the travel processes(Providing ticket, accommodation,...) : The most challenging problem was to pay for the congress online and getting the visa.
Please give a briefing of your own observations and outcomes of the congress: : I was satisfied with the great organization of the congress program and the politeness of the executive committee members. In terms of the scientific program, there were many seminars and workshops on different psychiatric topics, some were presented in Spanish language but most of them were in English, most were organized by famous child psychiatrists but many talks and lectures were presented by young and active students or physicians. They had tried to particularly support the young scientists. The keynote and state of the art lectures provided comprehensive and new information.
