Professional biography:

Dr. Alireza Tabatabaie,

MD, MPHIL, PHD (CANTAB), PGDIP SRT (PORTERBROOK), COSRT ACC, CERT APEL PST (RELATE), FECSM.

Dr. Tabatabaie is a sexologist and has a special interest in integrative, bio-psycho-social and culturally tailored approaches. He graduated as a medical doctor and specialised in Sexual and Relationship Therapy at the Porterbrook Clinic in Sheffield – an international centre of excellence in Psychosexual Therapy/Medicine. In 2011, he was awarded accreditation by the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT). 

Pursuing further advanced training in Sexual Medicine, he attended the world renowned Oxford Sexual Medicine Course provided by the European Society for Sexual Medicine (ESSM). In 2012, he was awarded the title of ‘Fellow of European Committee on Sexual Medicine (FECSM)’ by the Multidisciplinary Joint Committee on Sexual Medicine (MJCSM).

Along with practising as a clinical sexologist, he has been actively involved in education and as an educator. He completed a PhD at the University of Cambridge, researching sexual health and education in young Muslims. Between 2008 and 2013, he was a member of the Executive Committee and Advisory Board of the British Association of Sexual Educators (2008 – 2013). From 2015 to 2018, he was the Vice-Chair of the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT, professional and regulatory body for sexual and relationship therapists in the UK). He was a Trustee to COSRT for 6 years (2012 – 2018). In 2016, he co-founded Cambridge Institute of Clinical Sexology (now renamed a Contemporary Institute of Clinical Sexology). He was the Cambridge Institute’s director until 2018.

On December, 2017 Prof. Tabatabaie was presented with the TUMS Distinguished Visiting Professor Title for the duration of 2017-2020 by Dean of School of Pharmacy.
