History:

The Psychiatry and Psychology Research Center of Tehran University of Medical Sciences as the most active psychiatric research center in Iran was established in 2004. The center's building is located in Roozbeh Psychiatric Hospital. Considering the opportunity of using the knowledge and experience of outstanding professors, the students and assistants of Roozbeh Hospital are provided with a good platform for the development of valuable studies on the field of psychiatric and psychological disorders.

Main goals of the research center:

• Conducting fundamental research with the aim of expanding the knowledge boundaries
• Providing guidelines on relevant topics based on research results
• Achieving new and advanced Diagnostic & Therapy technologies
• Clinical and community-based research aimed at promoting community health
• Interdisciplinary activity and collaboration with different fields of study such as neuroscience, clinical psychopharmacology, nutritional neuropsychiatry and dietetics, genetics, and biomedical engineering
• Expansion of scientific communication with national and international research centers
• Admission and training of Non-Iranian international students to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program
• Designing and performing joint research programs with international universities, colleges and research centers based on Memorandum of Understanding agreed and signed between the two sides
• Collaboration with international scientists
• Training of scholars

Department of Psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, clinical psychopharmacology, clinical psychology, autism and neurodevelopment disorders, psychotherapy, addiction behaviors, neuropsychiatry, eating and feeding disorders, nutritional neuropsychiatry, spiritual psychiatry, mental health, neurodegenerative disorders, psychopathology, biomedical engineering, psychosexual and psycho genomics, community psychiatry, cultural psychiatry and psychology,

Ph.D. program:

The aim of the Ph.D. program is to train international students who, while having dominance in a specific field, can move on the frontier and expand the borders of human knowledge by gaining different abilities and using advanced research methods. The students in the Ph.D. Program work closely with one or more faculty members from their related field of study. Also, the multidisciplinary fields of interest are welcomed. Applying for any above departments is now allowed for Ph.D. applicants.

Admission Criteria and Method

Having acquired a Master’s Degree or a Professional Doctorate Degree (M.D., Pharm.D.) or higher relevant to the requested field of study based on the decision of the advisor and the approval of the academic unit and the International Students Admission Committee; Determining the overall details of the student’s research projects approved by the advisor.

Participation in the production of science at the national and international levels annually, some of which are:

1. The production of more than 50% of international and English articles of the country in the field of psychiatry
2. 375 articles published in international journals
3. 275 articles published in national journals
4. Approval and implementation of more than 156 research projects
5. Citation 2697 in internationally recognized journals at Scopus
6. Implementation and support of more than thirty theses in Specialty, Ph.D. program, General Medicine and Pharmacy
7. Publishing and translating 51 book titles
8. Supporting fundamental and applied research in psychiatry, psychology and mental health.
9. Collaboration with national and international research centers
10. The publication of the first Iranian scientific journal on psychiatry and psychology and neuroscience in Iran for near 10 years entitled: “Iranian Journal of psychiatry” indexed in Pubmed, Scopus, EBSCO, Index Medicus for the WHO EMR (IMEMR), Scientific Information Database (SID) and Ulrich's Periodicals Directory.
11. Holding monthly training classes to increase the scientific level of researchers
12. Hold Ph.D. by research program since 2011.
13. Holding workshops for writing articles, designing research methods, principals of systematic review and Meta-analysis, the sample size in health studies STATA and SPSS - in collaboration with the research department of the faculty of medicine.
14. Holding training courses aimed at increasing the research skills of mental health researchers
15. Holding national and international seminars and congresses
16. Participation in international and national conferences
17. Obtaining the first rank in the evaluation of national research centers and winning the prize of Razi National Festival in the years 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2011
18. Selection of three faculty members of the Center as the best researcher during the three periods of the Razi national Festival
19. Selection of the head of the Psychiatric Research Center (Professor M.R. Mohammadi) as the best research director of the Ministry of Science, National Center of Research and Technology
20. Selection of the head of the Psychiatric Research Center (Professor M.R. Mohammadi) as the leading research director of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education in the tenth ceremony of the selected country researchers - 2009
21. Selection of the head of the Psychiatric Research Center (Professor M.R. Mohammadi) the Shosha Award from the World Health Organization (WHO); 2012

Psychiatry and Psychology Research Center is now ready to collaborate with the international researchers, institutes, and universities worldwide. We welcome the multidisciplinary researches in the context of departments of the research center. We are also ready to supervise and take an active role in the Research and Developments of the companies, institutes, research centers and universities in the Mediterranean and African region.
