Information of Congress
Title of the Congress : Annual Zoological Congress of “Grigore Antipa” Museum
Title of your Abstract : Biodiversity of forensically important flies in Fars province of Iran
country : BUCHAREST, ROMANIA
From : Wednesday, November 20, 2013
To : Saturday, November 23, 2013
Abstract(Please copy/paste the abstract send to the congress) : In addition to their high biodiversity, Diptera has an important role forensic science. The aims of this study were to study on biodiversity of forensically important flies in Fars province from 2011 to 2012.
Fars province, situated in southern part of Iran, has been selected for this study because of its three distinct geographical regions which can provide good data on their effects on fly biodiversity. Sampling methods were monthly collecting of free flies by means of two kinds of adult traps.
A sum of 15865 adult fly of 28 species were collected which were belonged to Calliphoridae (3736 samples), Sarcophagidae (1518 samples), Muscidae (9928 samples) and Fanniidae (683 samples). Three of collected species in this study including Sarophaga dux (Sarcophagidae), Muscina prolapsa, and Hyrotaea capensis (Muscidae) were the first report for fauna of flies of Iran. Collected species included: 13 species from Sarcophagidae, 6 species from Calliphoridae, 7 species from Muscidae and 2 species from Fanniidae. The Except of Simpson’s index (D) (P value=0. 05), others indices (Margalef, Simpson (D), Shanon-Wienner and Evenness) didn’t show significant differences between three geographical regions (P value>0. 05).
The most important factor in uniformity of biodiversity indices in various geographical regions of Fars province is nomadic behavior with regular movement of sheep and goat across the province. The results of this study are useful for forensic entomology database in Iran which is very low.

The Congress Reporting Form
How many volunteers were present at the Congress? : 321
Delegates from which countries presented in the congress? : Cameron, England, Germany, India, Iran, Italy, Lebanon, Macedonia, Moldova, Morocco, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine
Were the delegates of any other organizations present in the congress? : Yes
If yes, please write the names of the organizations in the box : The natural Museum of Natural History of Morocco
What were the responses to your talking points? Were specific questions or concerns raised? : Due to novelty of our panel (Forensic Entomology) in this congress there are more questions about this subject. Members of this panel (R. Maalouf, chair, and L. Iancu, member and me) responded the questions and described the forensic entomology and its importance in crime scene. The status of the forensic entomology around the world, its needs and its future has been explained for the attendance during and after the lectures.
If you met staff members, please list their full names & positions. : Lavinia IANCU: member of Grigore Antipa” National Museum of Natural History,
Dr. Dumitru MURARIU: Corresponding member of the Romanian Academy; General Director of “Grigore Antipa” National Museum of Natural History, Bucharest, Romania
Irinel E. POPESCU: “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University, Faculty of Biology, Romania
Please inform us if there are any follow up actions we need to talk with the members of the congress : Few months before the congress we’ve established an online internet group entitled “forensic-entomology-research group”. The members of this group decided to start an international research study in the field of forensic entomology. We have started a joint study with the subject of forensically important fly diversity in Romania, Iran and Italy. Results of this work has presented as an oral presentation in the congress. We discussed about completing of this works and planned for future work. During the congress we finalized an international joint project entitled “Study on arthropod succession patterns on experimental dead body”. This study will be done in at least three countries, Iran, Romania and Lebanon. The novelty of this work is its plane to be done synchronized in all volunteer countries. It will give us very useful results about the influence of global latitudes and altitudes and various climatic conditions on the succession patterns on dead bodies which is very important in forensic entomology.
Your experiences about the travel processes(Providing ticket, accommodation,...) : Romania is in East Eroupe and is near to Turkey. Any Turkish airlines have flght to Romania and its flight duration is about 1 hour and 20 minutes. There was not problem to prepare ticket. There isn't problem for accommodation also.
Please give a briefing of your own observations and outcomes of the congress: : This congress was very well organized and everything have prepared. With a very good program they succeeded to conduct oral presentations in one amphitheater which makes well managing of the time. There were synchronized translators for non Romanian delegates.
Serving the lunch and coffee breaks in the lobby of the congress building makes a good time managing for continuing the presentations and well discussions between participants.
The building of the congress was in the middle of the town which was very accessible to the various kinds of hotels as well as reducing the costs of Taxi services and accessing the presentations on time.
The reduced amount of registration fee was very good idea to attract scientists.
