The aim of this study was to determine the work ability index in an Iranian petrochemical job setting and to examine its relationship with psychosocial factors. The study was conducted among 420 male workers using the WAI questionnaire and the Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ). The mean WAI score was 39.1 (SD=5.7) among the studied workers. A significant association was revealed between mean WAI score and age, job tenure. Moreover, skill discretion, coworker support and supervisor support were positively associated with the mean WAI score. The results showed that even in heavy physical work, factors such as job insecurity, skill discretion, job strain and social support play an important role in maintaining work ability.

Some of the audiences for instance came to me after my presentation requiring more information concerning WAI index as the main key word of my talk and asking the way they can establish such kind of the work in their workplace. One of the academic member of the Qatari university also requested me to have collaborative work as well as joint projects with my university, Tehran University of Medical Sciences in future. In general, my feeling from these talks is a positive and promising one, and I hope we can have present our works particularly within the region for getting more collaborations and establishing applied research projects in these region instead of expertise coming from western countries. I personally believe we have such a profound capacity to get many works from the countries located in the middle-east region.
