Title of the Congress : AMEE 2014: Excellence in Education
Title of your Abstract : Developing guidelines for designing competency assessment programmes: the initial move from
focus on methods to programmatic approach
country : Italy
From : Saturday, August 30, 2014
To : Wednesday, September 03, 2014
Abstract(Please copy/paste the abstract send to the congress) : Background
The results of two surveys were conducted in Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS)
affiliated schools put the development of an assessment system in the order. Hence, In line with
approach of TUMS to programmatic assessment, our aim in this study is to develop guidelines for
designing programme of assessment aligned with conditions of all affiliated schools of TUMS.
Summary of work
A participatory approach was applied. Following literature review, a series of meetings with
assessment experts were held to generate the initial draft of guidelines. After reaching initial
consensus, document was distributed among assessment developers and decision makers in all
schools and their comments elicited. Once, guidelines were fine-tuned based on the
recommendations, the document was approved by the university education council.
Summary of results
In total 24 guidelines were developed. Two guidelines were considered as general and the remaining
categorized in 3 domains: infrastructures, Design and implementation of the programme, and quality
assurance of the programme. Some guidelines, i.e. those related to infrastructure, were generic to
allow schools to adapt to their context. Some guidelines, such as those related to program
implementation, were found to be straightforward to persuade schools to apply it exactly.
Conclusions
Though we developed a set of comprehensive guidelines tailored to TUMS different context,
examining its utility still remains in the order. Next step is to encourage schools to develop their
specific procedures and subsequently design their assessment programme.
Take-home message
Development of the guidelines for designing assessment programmes might facilitate systematic
assessment.

What were the responses to your talking points? Were specific questions or concerns raised? : APPLICATION OF PRESENTATION IN OUR UNIVERSITY
many new idea was mentioned, a plenty of experiences was recalled. it is our responsibility to adopt this innovative idea and experiences in our country.

besides, TUMS as one the high ranked university in our country and pioneer of medical education in some areas especially implementation of systematic evaluation and curriculum revision needs many idea to improve its structure.

my concern is how we can implement this new idea in a such heterogen and diverse environment of Tehran University of Medical Sciences

another issue is regarding our students. one of issue which was raised during the conference was well-being and reducing stress in medical students. in today's world students are under large amount of stress and burnout. therefore it is important to mange them in this regard. moreover, we intend to run many intervention in our institue which unintentionally increase the pressure on our students. it is a big challenge that we should find a very smart respon se for it.
If you met staff members, please list their full names & positions. : Prof. Joun Sandars

Please inform us if there are any follow up actions we need to talk with the members of the congress : there is no any special issue in this regard.
the best thing is to provide more opportunity and support for students to participate more in conferenceses like this.
for a medical education as a new dicipline which there are not expertise in some area it is important to communicate with pioneer university
Your experiences about the travel processes(Providing ticket, accommodation,...) : high prices,
difficulty in getting visa
Please give a briefing of your own observations and outcomes of the congress: : participation in a very large community of medical educators was inspiring for me. sharing our experiences would be valuable for future dicison making.

AMEE conference provides diverse experiences for participants. workshops hold during the conference was valuable particulary. we can get idea for faculty development courses in our country.

moreover, posters hall was very informative for gaining idea. it was full of medical education experienceses which applied around the world. the structure and appereance of posters was attractive too.
