Abstract:
There are several arthropod-borne diseases worldwide; Malaria , Cutaneous leishmaniasis, Visceral leishmaniasis, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever , Tick relapsing fever, Scorpionism, Q-fever, Papatasi fever, Tularemia, Rift valley fever, Dengue fever, Yellow fever, West Nile viruses, Plague, Louse-borne Typhus, River blindness, Chagas disease are the main important ones. Some arthropods considered as nuisance, such as Scabies, horseflies and Culicidae mosquitoes, Cockroaches, Fire ants, Blister beetles, Rove beetle, Bee stings, Black flies bites, Lice, Lactodictism (spider bite), Bedbugs and Scorpion sting. Human being used different drugs and insecticides for their control. However, long use of drugs evolved agent resistant to drug and insecticide resistance in the vectors. Novel approaches come to the market including male sterility, genetic manipulation of insects of refractory to agent, increasing the gene frequency of zoophilicity, cytoplasmic incompatibility, sugar bait, biological agents such as plant, fungi, algae, predators, insect viruses, chemical attractants, pheromone and repellent. Prior to any new approach for control several actions are required such as: improvement of the knowledge vector ecology, behavior, and genetic population, resistant status, proper evaluation in field trials, resources requirements, testing in combination for their effect on infection and transmission, barriers on the critical pathway to implementation, probable risk and benefit to the ecosystem, cost effectiveness, applicability in the undeveloped and poor countries, feasibility, tool development, cross-disciplinary initiatives, enabling technologies. These criteria will be discussed in detail in the meeting.

How many volunteers were present at the Congress? : 1. More than 300 delegates
Delegates from which countries presented in the congress? : From different countries throughout the world including Iran, U.K., Switzerland, Australia, China, and South Africa and…
Were the delegates of any other organizations present in the congress? : Yes
If yes, please write the names of the organizations in the box : 3. WHO, Medecins Sans Frontieres, DNDi
What were the responses to your talking points? Were specific questions or concerns raised? : Some of participants asked me several questions about Novel approaches for vector control. I also was involved with other presentations asking the questions.
If you met staff members, please list their full names & positions. : I met Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Scientist F/Sr. Deputy Director, and officer- in- Charge , NIMR FU, and organizing General Secretary, Dr. Gyan Prakash EX. DHS, Gout, of Rajasthan, and several others participants from different countries.
Please inform us if there are any follow up actions we need to talk with the members of the congress : For follow up: respect to the activities of Malaria research center of India, we are too keen to have bilateral collaborations with this center. The common vector-borne diseases of India and Iran are important health issues that will open new field for such collaborations. Invitation of experts on vector borne infections is recommended.
Your experiences about the travel processes(Providing ticket, accommodation,...) : We had good experiences for the travelling. All the arrangement was made by a Tour in Tehran. Everything including ticket, visa, accommodation… was arranged by the tour. We also had several internal tours, visiting different monuments of Goa and Mumbai.
Please give a briefing of your own observations and outcomes of the congress: : My expression about the congress was satisfactory. I had time to meet some colleagues from different parts of the world, working on vector borne diseases. We discussed and arranged to have collaboration in terms of research and training in the future. The university should provide good facilities to have connection with the accredited universities and research centers of the world. The cost for such travelling is more that the payment of the university. The cost which is provided by the university should be at least double. We propose at least 50.000.000 rials for travelling to the Indian subcontinent. The cost should be higher for the academic staffs that are full time.
