Abstract(Please copy/paste the abstract send to the congress) :	Serum IL-17 and IL-23 in Patients Infected with Giardia Lamblia Nasrin Dashti , Mitra ZareBavani , Nahid Einollahi Dept. of Medical Laboratory Sciences, School of Allied Medical Sciences, Tehran University of Medical Sciences , Tehran, Iran Introduction: Giardia lamblia is a unicellular eukaryotic microscopic enteric protozoa. It is one of the most common intestinal parasites in Iran with a prevalence of 10.9%. which can cause of diarrhea, cramps, nausea and nutrient malabsorption and chronic and repeated infections . In previous studies it has been shown that there was an association between G. lamblia status and cytokine production. Interleukins cause inflammatory response in parasitic diseases.This study was performed to determine the serum levels of IL- 17 and IL-23 cytokines in G.lamblia infected patients. Materials and Methods: This cross – sectional study was conducted in Hospitals of Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Examination of fecal samples for detection of Giardia cyst and/or trophozoite was done by direct wet smear and formol-ether concentration method .A total of 58 positive individuals for Giardia lamblia were enrolled as study group. The control group consisted of 58 age and sex matched healthy volunteers . Serum was obtained from both groups and kept in -70 0 C freezer for cytokine measurements. Serum levels of IL-17 and IL-23 were measured by means of ELISA kits. Results : In this study, the amount of IL-17 and IL-23 in infected patients was significantly higher than the controls(310.63 ± 96.37 pg/ml vs. 86.68 ± 27.68 pg/ml P= 0.004) and (93.50 ± 13.31 pg/ml vs. 42.8 ± 11.18 pg/ml P = 0.03) respectively. Conclusion: Host defense response against parasitic infections, is directly affected by cytokines. Increased interleukins 17 and 23 in patients with Giardiosis was probably caused by immune response and local intestinal inflammation. Such research may help to establish new therapeutic approaches in giardiasis, as well as in other disorders of the intestinal tract.

Please inform us if there are any follow up actions we need to talk with the members of the congress :	There is nothing special to mention.We are thankful to organizing team for their kind hospitality and well organized sessions and also for providing us pleasant memories . Some researchers were interested to attend conferences in Iran. I think it would be a good idea to have more international meetings and conferences in Iran .Thus we can have more participants in the conferences from different countries in Iran.
Your experiences about the travel processes(Providing ticket, accommodation,...) :	Unfortunately there are no direct flights to Switzerland . Any way it was a good experience.
Please give a briefing of your own observations and outcomes of the congress: :	My research work was presented in the poster session. Fortunately I was able to attend most of the lectures in the conference which was very useful. Also in the poster session I had enough time to review the posters of other researchers. There was enough time to discuss the new research work being done with the scientists from different countries . This was a very good experience for me. The congress had prepared a variety of lectures, symposia, and workshops. Attendees could learn about new findings in the lectures as well as poster sessions. Also the close interactions with scientists was in a very good and friendly atmosphere.
