Information of Congress
Title of the Congress : International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine
Title of your Abstract : Diffusion Weighted Imaging in Accurate Classification of Complex Ovarian Masses: A Whole-Tumor Heterogeneity Quantification Approach
Destination Country : Canada
From : Thursday, May 28, 2015
To : Sunday, June 7, 2015
Abstract(Please copy/paste the abstract send to the congress) : Differential diagnosis of benign and malignant complex ovarian masses plays a pivotal role in decision making
about the treatment strategy and could significantly improve the patient outcome. Diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) and
the calculated apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) have shown great promise in providing non-invasive and sensitive
biomarkers of tumor progression in a variety of cancers, such as brain tumors
1
. Nonetheless, in complex masses,
qualitative assessment of low signal intensity within solid portion of b1000 DW images has demonstrated to be helpful in
predicting benignity (high specificity), while the contribution of quantitative ADC is still a matter of controversy
2
. This is
mainly because ovarian cancer is a genetically heterogeneous disease and the existence of large inter- and intra-patient
heterogeneity could hamper adequate clinical differentiation of complex benign and malignant ovarian lesions. In this
regard, quantifying whole-tumor heterogeneity in ADC maps to reveal the differences in patterns of cellular density could
be a key point for achieving definitive diagnosis. Inherited from this idea, to probe the heterogeneous nature of complex
ovarian masses beyond simple quantitative measures (e.g. mean ADC), we have investigated several textural features
within ADC maps of complex ovarian lesions in an unsupervised automatic classification scheme, to introduce the
potential predictors of malignancy in complex ovarian cancer.

The Congress Reporting Form
How many volunteers were present at the Congress? : 100
Delegates from which countries presented in the congress? : USA, Canada, Turkey, Iran, Sweden, UK, and many other countries with advanced research infrastructure in MRI
Were the delegates of any other organizations present in the congress? : Yes
If yes, please write the names of the organizations in the box : RSNA, IEEE, Cardiac MRI, Epilepsy Society, MS Society, MRI vendors (Siemens, GE, Philips)
What were the responses to your talking points? Were specific questions or concerns raised? : Head of the session, woman radiologist who is head of a research center, came front and said: 'it's so much interesting to me that mathematics is playing such crucial role is today's radiology of the world.'
If you met staff members, please list their full names & positions. : Stephanie, Roberta Kervitz
Please inform us if there are any follow up actions we need to talk with the members of the congress : We are activating the Iranian Chapter of ISMRM, in which your continuous support and considerations are highly appreciated. This chapter is now established in the country, and at the University international campus. We are establishing the Iranian society to this chapter, so it is so much important to be supported in the future by the esteemed campus @ TUMS.
Your experiences about the travel processes(Providing ticket, accommodation,...) : Since I hold Canadian passport, it was easy to just buy the ticket and find accommodation from hotels.com
Please give a briefing of your own observations and outcomes of the congress: : This congress is the 2nd most important event into the world of Radiology (after RSNA). It is so much interactive to accommodate people from different disciplines. This year Siemens had opening ceremony on their 7T magnet in this congress (other than RSNA).

I am now in touch with the representative of radiologists in this congress to help us establish the Iranian chapter of ISMRM in the best way. He was in Tehran and we had excellent interactions together. We are now designing advanced clinical workshops in our chapter, for which I am inviting esteemed scientists from different parts of the world, people I met at the congress
