1.Brief summary of Leave : I was used 11 months of my sabbatical leave and successfuly achived the goals I planned. I could learn all the techniques required for paratransgenesis. I also learn the newest technique (dsRNA silencing) for control of vectors.
2.List the objectives of your sabbatical leave as listed in your proposal and indicate how completely they were met : Learning techniques need to perform paratransgenic approach as follow:
• Dynamics of paratransgenic bacteria populations in mosquitoes
• Design of genes for genetic manipulation
• Molecular cloning
• Measurement of gene expression
• Western blotting
• Assay of malaria parasite blocking in mosquitoes

Almost all of the mentioned goals were met in the sabattical leave.
3.Acheivements(Publications,research,et.al.) : I could successfuly complete a project entitled “Potential application of melittin (bee venom) as an effector molecule for paratransgenesis approach against malaria parasites.

I also have contributed to experiments for producing engineered bacteria that secrete a variety of effector anti-malarial molecules including MP2, EPIP, scorpine, SHIVA, and a poly-effector and tested them for blocking malaria parasites in An.gambiae and An.stephensi the two main vectors of maalaria in the world.
The results of these works will be published soon in key international journals.
4.Assessment of Value of Sabbatical leave(benefits, faculty development, future professional activities,...) : The value of this sabbatical leave was great and could transfer the techniques to my students. I also could yuse them in the current projects for control of various vector borne diseases in our country. I also have brought many valuable sources (GFP-Taged Plasmodium berghei, none GFP-taged P.berghei, three different transformed bacteria with different effector molecules ...) which will be used in our future researches in our group and Parasitology group.
I also could get agreement of my supervisor to have collaboration and perform joint projects.
