1.Brief summary of Leave : Formulation of different PLGA nano particles and solid lipid nano particles,
Evaluating of physicochemical properties release study,
Making topical gels from nano particles and comparing them.
2.List the objectives of your sabbatical leave as listed in your proposal and indicate how completely they were met : Formulating of different nano particles of a novel peptide for Acne treatment (completely achieved)
Establishing HPLC based analytical method (established)
Investigating release profiles to select the best release pattern (achieved)
To study stability of the final topical product (studied)
Writing manuscript (in preparation)
3.Acheivements(Publications,research,et.al.) : During my sabbatical research I took advantage of working with two separate research laboratories. One laboratory at the Department of Pharmacology was responsible to design and to introduce a novel cell penetrating peptide Indip for treating acne. At Pharmaceutics laboratory in the College of Pharmacy, I worked on different topical formulation of Indip, microscopic structure, stability and release profiles. The results of my research has been included in a Patent filed recently by the host university (please see the attachment) and I am preparing a manuscript to submit to a peer-reviewed journal. Moreover, I expect to be directly involved in the clinical study phase of this project most likely by bridging the host university with the TUMS Razi Hospital.
4.Assessment of Value of Sabbatical leave(benefits, faculty development, future professional activities,...) : I consider my sabbatical very productive one because I was involved in promising project of peptide formulation and stability which resulted in filing a patent, and preparing a manuscript. Moreover, the host university PI expressed his interest to conduct clinical study of the formulated product with TUMS participation and collaboration and I expect to be actively involved with the future clinical part of this project as well. I addition to the above project I actively involved in formulating nano particles and solid nano particles in cyclolinopeptides for psoriasis therapy. I compared different nano particles, physico chemical properties and pattern of releases
