Information of Congress
Title of the Congress : amee 2016
Title of your Abstract : Developing an Instrument for Assessment of Team-Based Learning by Learners
Destination Country : Spain
From : Friday, August 26, 2016
To : Saturday, September 3, 2016
Abstract(Please copy/paste the abstract send to the congress) : Background: In Team-Based Learning (TBL) method of teaching, students actively participate in the teaching-learning process and are responsible for their learning through pre-class studying and team work with other classmates. Evaluation of the TBL sessions by students would help its better implementation. In this study we developed a valid and reliable tool for assessment of TBL classes.
Summary of work: This mixed method cross-sectional study with a Qual-Quan design was conducted on 168 medical students of Tehran University of Medical Sciences in the basic sciences stage of their studies. We asked for students’ satisfaction with this teaching method and its effectiveness, in semi structural in-depth individual interviews until data saturation (12 interviews). We performed content analysis of the interviews and designed the questionnaire. Psychometric characteristics of the questionnaire were assessed in the terms of content validity, test-retest reliability, internal consistency and construct validity through explanatory factor analysis.
Summary of results: The final tool was a 29-item questionnaire (reliability =0.87 and Alpha=0.93) with 5 components of “ learning enhancement”, “satisfaction”, “technical aspects”, “teacher capability” and “appropriate testing”.
Discussion: The way of implementing TBL sessions has a notable effect on learning quality, so evaluation of these sessions’ outcomes and pros and cons requires the assessment of the learners' experiences and comments in different educational contexts which needs a suitable tool.
Conclusions: This tool can be used for the assessment of TBL classes.
Take-home messages: Assessing the students’ experiences of TBL method can provide valuable information for improving the learning quality.

If you met staff members, please list their full names & positions. : Ruby McGee and Hillary Murphy.
Please inform us if there are any follow up actions we need to talk with the members of the congress : I have talked to some of the exhibition delegates and specialists of other universities and I am in touch with them via email. As soon as there is a need for further formal followup, I will inform related parties in TUMS.
I am in touch with some electronic exam providers and also elearning companies. On the other hand some specialists asked me for sending them the results of my study and its related papers.
Your experiences about the travel processes(Providing ticket, accommodation,...) : We really need to have a credit card like Master or Visa card. The grant provided by TUMS is even less than this conference registration fee.
Please give a briefing of your own observations and outcomes of the congress: : This was AMEE 2016 (An International Association of Medical Education) conference. I participated in 4 short communication, 2 poster and most of symposium and plenary sessions. I got ideas for my carrier as a medical educationist in TUMS. The subjects were about Team Based Learning and Problem Based Learning, Faculty development, blended learning and Mobile learning. Plenaries and symposiums provided an international view on the status of medical education worldwide. One of the interesting sessions for me was accreditation among South American countries hold by Iberoamerican Association.
