Abstract(Please copy/paste the abstract send to the congress) :	The cholinergic deficit correlates with the severity of Alzheimer’s disease. The cholinergic function can be improved by AChE inhibitors blocking this key enzyme in the breakdown of acetylcholine. Based on traditional medicine, during two last decades the use of herbal medicinal substances in dementia therapy has been studied [1]. The fruit extract of Piper longum Linn. (piperaceae) has been used in several systems of traditional medicine with various therapeutic properties, among those for the enhancement of cognitive performance in several herbal drug mixtures [2]. To find new natural compounds with AChE inhibitory effect, in this study the fruit of P. longum was investigated. First the fruits were pulverised smoothly, and then extracted with dichloromethane by styring after sonification. The extract was investigated by a respective enzymatic TLC bioautography assay [3] to identify the active zones. Then the active compounds were isolated using several chromatographic techniques such as vacuum liquid chromatography, column chromatography and size exclusion chromatography. The structures of the active components were characterized by different methods such as one and two-dimensional 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, FTIR and mass spectrometry. These substances were identified as methylen-dioxide and piperine derivatives. The IC50 values of them were determined using Ellman’s chlorimetric assay. Physostigmine was used as the positive control. Additionally, the extract and the pure compounds were analyzed by HPLC to determine the concentration of active compounds in the extract and the fruits.

What were the responses to your talking points? Were specific questions or concerns raised? :	Many attendants came to my poster and we have discussion about the issue. Some people have similar research the we shared the experiences.

Please inform us if there are any follow up actions we need to talk with the members of the congress :	I talked with some researchers about the scientific cooperation and we will be in touch for further activities. Also I talked with some companies for instruments cooperation. They are supposed to consult with their headquarter for possible cooperation. After that we will make plan and write a common project.

Please give a briefing of your own observations and outcomes of the congress: :	It was the biggest event in my field which is happened every 4 years and this year in Copenhagen there are 6 societies came together including: The Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA) The American Society of Pharmacognosy (ASP) The Phytochemical Society of Europe (PSE) Società Italiana di Fitochimica (SIF) Association Francophone pour l’Enseignement et la Recherche en Pharmacognosie (AFERP) The Japanese Society of Pharmacognosy (JSP). It is very nice that you can meet all the top scientists in the field of natural products.
