1.Brief summary of Leave : |
I have served as a Hematology, Oncology lab director and cytogenetic technical director at our research center for more than 5 years. My current clinical service is as Director of the Cytogenetics Department at the HORCSCT, responsible for the lab tests and daily sign-out of cytogenetic/molecular testing on adult and pediatric patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation as well as other cancer patients. The focus of my research is on the cytogenomics of human neoplasia, genetic approaches of karyotyping, fluorescence in situ hybridization, breakage study in Fanconi Anemia patients, circulating tumor cells and circulating tumor DNA in solid tumors. Our aim is to identify genetic aberrations in cancer that are prognostically significant and may serve as actionable biomarkers for treatment decision making for individual patients.I enthusiastically promotes cancer genetic teaching in order to train the best physicians, researchers, PhD and MSc students and health care professionals. I also served as the executive secretary of 8 International stem cell transplantation congresses. I am a member of Editorial Board of Hematology/Oncology and Stem Cell Therapy Journal IJHOSCR since 2011.I am currently involved in post-graduate medical training of fellows, residents,Phd and MSc students of Genetics and postdoctoral research fellows at Tehran University of Medical Sciences. I have been selected as deputy of international foreign affairs at our institute since March 2017.I got promoted to associate professor of Tehran university of Medical sciences on Oct 2018. I would like to see the infrastructure of Fred Hutch as one of biggest BMT, cell therapy and cancer research in the world to improve our system in Iran for cancer diagnosis and development of new techniques and learn how to do the best research in cancer and knowing new scientist and start new collaboration with them. |
2.List the objectives of your sabbatical leave as listed in your proposal and indicate how completely they were met : |
As an associate professor of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, head of Hematology, Oncology laboratories and technical director of cytogenetic lab in Hematology, Oncology and Stem cell Transplantation research center, Shariati Hospital, which is one of the biggest Stem Cell Transplantation centers in the world, I was interested to upgrade my knowledge, and visit the Molecular oncology, molecular hematology and Cytogenetics Laboratory of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) and Clinical Research Division at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research and genomic center and clinical oncology lab at UW, as Visiting Investigator Center in order to familiarize with state-of-the-art technologies in the field of cancer diagnosis . Fred Hutch is one of the biggest Stem cell transplantation centers and certainly the one with the most innovations. Fred Hutch has already 3 Nobel Prizes and has been the biggest NIH grant recipient among all U.S. cancer centers attesting to it's faculty excellence and I believe, my extensive training and clinical practice in the field of Hematology for more than 10 years, along with my research experience in the areas of leukemia, solid tumors, will contribute to my success as a Visiting Investigator at Fred Hutch and UW. |
