1.Brief summary of Leave : |
Overall, before entering any working system in Canada that was necessary to pass all courses of how safe work is done in research and without confirmation of these sections there will be no possibility of active presence at the workplace. So initial parts of my sabbatical period was full training in the compulsory education area at the workplace and the basic research training. After completing this broad curriculum, I had to complete many other tutorials for personal safety through OWL (Western University Online Learning Management System) because I worked at the University of Western. These courses lasted for several weeks. Because the sabbatical is an opportunity to take on something new and risky, and this is not an opportunity to do the research I usually do, these prolonged period gave me many new educational training that was very useful for understanding other educational approaches in developing country. As a visiting professor under the supervision of Dr. Luke and Dr. Sener, I run two projects, but prior to starting any experimental works, I need to go through the online courses and the various workshops for Basic Animal Care and Use Course. I imagine one of my valuable approach in this sabbatical leave is to set down an online model of Basic Animal Care and Use Course for presentation to all students who works on animals in Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Research projects that I involved there were in the area of amelioration of renal ischemia reperfusion induced inflammatory tissue damages and protection of donated kidneys ex vivo studies including “Preservation and protection of donor kidneys from ischemia reperfusion injury by repositioning anti-inflammatory drugs for transplantation” and “Crosstalk or interaction between gasotransmitters hydrogen sulfide/carbon monoxide/nitric oxide systems against renal ischemia-reperfusion injury and in transplantation”. The funding source of those project is Canadian Institutes of Health Research. |
2.List the objectives of your sabbatical leave as listed in your proposal and indicate how completely they were met : |
EX VIVO preservation studies in pig and mouse Autotransplant studies in pig and mouse Observing and learning microsurgery on the mouse kidney Research provides a strong foundation for the care of our patients, from basic discovery of new ways to prevent rejection of organs, to new surgical approaches, to optimal treatment of living donor transplants. |
3.Acheivements(Publications,research,et.al.) : |
The funding source of two projects that I involved in them was Canadian Institutes of Health Research as you may find as attachments. The Western University is supportive of my efforts to undertake such researches. Unfortunately because of cost problems and lack of full university support, I could not stay more to have publication. But I got a large number of certifications on courses and workshops that I passed there. |
4.Assessment of Value of Sabbatical leave(benefits,faculty development,future professional activities,...) : |
I imagine one of my valuable approach in this sabbatical leave is to set down an online model of Basic Animal Care and Use Course for presentation to all students who works on animals in Tehran University of Medical Sciences. In addition I am now familiar with the practices for microsurgery on the mouse kidney and heart transplantation and pig and mouse auto-transplant and kidney procurement. These new techniques and skills are very important achievement in this sabbatical leave. The funding source of those project is Canadian Institutes of Health Research. |
