Empathy is the ability to listen, understand, and place oneself in others’ position to support them better . Interpersonal communication skills play an essential role in the structure of our beliefs about physicians’ professional competence. Empathy is considered paramount to the medical profession because it affects patients’ satisfaction, compliance, and quality of care. Previous studies have suggested that the physicians’ empathic communication skills are associated with improved patients’ outcomes. Moreover, some studies suggested that higher cognitive empathy levels could be a protective factor against burnout among physicians. International Conference On Medical Ethics And Professionalism was a good opportunity for Tehran University of Medical Sciences professors to present their new ideas at an international congress. |
| Your observations and outcomes : |
Muscat, the capital city of Oman, is one of the best cities in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. Omani people have many joined cultural and religious characteristics to Iranians. Discussing some ethical challenges in such international conferences can improve our knowledge and attitudes toward a better position. Speaking with some great Omani experts and visiting a couple of historical and national places provided me with an amazing perspective on the above-mentioned topics. I highly recommend my colleagues to present their papers at the future congresses in the region. |
