Objective: Diagnosis and staging of bronchogenic carcinoma remains by far the most common application of transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA), but there is considerable potential for growth in other fields. We performed this study to compare the results of TBNA with forceps biopsy in the evaluation of endobronchial lesions.
Method: Patients with centrally located pulmonary lesions who were scheduled for flexible bronchoscopy, were enrolled in the study. Three TBNA specimens and three separate direct forceps biopsies (FB) were obtained from each lesion. The bleeding rate and pathologic results were compared with each other.
Results: FB was diagnostic in 89% of patients (17/19). TBNA showed malignant/atypical cells in 71.4 percent of those with malignancy on FB. In 2 cases with Unremarkable FB results, TBNA revealed malignant/atypical cells. No pneumothorax was detected. There was a mild bleeding in 12 (63.2%) cases after FB that stopped spontaneously without any intervention. No significant bleeding occurred after FNAB.
Conclusion: Obtaining additional samples from endobronchial lesions during bronchoscopy by FNAB, will increase diagnostic yield without adding any significant risk to the patient. This method could be useful particularly in haemorrhagic endobronchial lesions.

The Congress Reporting Form
How many volunteers were present at the Congress? : 20
Delegates from which countries presented in the congress? : indonesia ,america, japan, india, china
Were the delegates of any other organizations present in the congress? : No
If yes, please write the names of the organizations in the box :
What were the responses to your talking points? Were specific questions or concerns raised? : they asked how often do we use this method .they were concerned about the possible complications.Others asked if we have the chance to have a pathologist present at the site to help us about the cellularity of the slides
If you met staff members, please list their full names & positions. : no
Please inform us if there are any follow up actions we need to talk with the members of the congress : i think we can ask if it is possible to be the host for the congress in the future because i think many of our colleagues only try to attend the European or american congresses and are not so familiar with this organization so this will help them to become familiar with that and since we have many common problems it may help us to have good cooperation with each other
Your experiences about the travel processes(Providing ticket, accommodation,...) : very hard and time consuming and expensive esp without having credit card
Please give a briefing of your own observations and outcomes of the congress: : I found that in the Asian pacific countries many novel thoughts exists and many good investigations are being done by our colleagues in our neighborhood these meetings will help us to know what other professors in the countries with similar sources are doing and with the help of them we can find better solutions for the common problems that may not be as important for the american or European countries.perhaps we can get the advanced technologies present in some of these countries especially in broncoscopy and interventional pulmonology.
