Information of Congress
Title of the Congress : The 30th Congress of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology
Title of your Abstract : Eye Tracking in Laser Refractive Surgery
country : China,Guangzhou
From : Wednesday, April 1, 2015
To : Saturday, April 4, 2015
Abstract(Please copy/paste the abstract send to the congress) : Objective: 1.To understand the basics of eye tracking in laser refractive surgery. 2.To improve positional accuracy of Excimer laser beam placement and eye tracking in order to optimize refractive correction. Purpose: The course on Eye Tracking is a dynamic one enriched with real cases and pearls on how to make best use of this technology and make informed decisions in special clinical scenarios. We shall first introduce the concept of ablation fidelity and address the consequences of positional inaccuracy in laser beam placement. Then we describe eye spatial orientation, optical references and the ocular tilt and how they define the laser beam placement. The eye motor actuator system and ocular fixational behavior, and specifically, miniature eye movements are detailed next. Eye tracking technology & terminology is comprehensively reviewed thereupon. We will have a Q&A session at the end, enhanced with multiple clinical cases.

The Congress Reporting Form
How many volunteers were present at the Congress? : You mean delegates; I guess ~10000.
Delegates from which countries presented in the congress? : Mostly far Asia, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Japan. Korea
Were the delegates of any other organizations present in the congress? : Yes
If yes, please write the names of the organizations in the box : Chinese Ophthalmological Society and Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology
What were the responses to your talking points? Were specific questions or concerns raised? : They found our presentations interesting, idea provocative and asked some clarifying questions. I commented extensively in a subspecialty session on refractive surgery: usage of UBM for STS sizing as the Gold standard; necessity of the Bland-Altman and margins of agreement in the statistical analysis. I challenged the usage of regeneration for corneal stroma following femtosecond laser application. Healing, remodeling, scar formation, etc. are more suitable.
If you met staff members, please list their full names & positions. : You mean of the senior Congress organizers? No.
Please inform us if there are any follow up actions we need to talk with the members of the congress : Not needed. I myself talked to the American Academy of Ophthalmology representative (Dr Brennan ex-president of the AAo) and reinforced Iranian ophthalmology society in Asia. I cannot suggest a membership for TUMS. Iranian Society of Ophthalmology may need to approach the APAO proactively and seek organizational participation in this regional society.
However, this is controversial. We may need to define a regional one of our own. For instance, Central Asia of Academy of Ophthalmology/Persian Academy of Ophthalmology and lead a regional development in our neighborhood...
Your experiences about the travel processes(Providing ticket, accommodation,...) : It was done by a travel agency.
Please give a briefing of your own observations and outcomes of the congress: : Chinese and far and south Asia is just a different World. I understood that our ophthalmology practice is better standardized and found those of them somehow behind that of ours.
