Information of Congress
Title of the Congress : ORAL DIAGNOSIS AND MAXILLOFACIAL RADIOLOGY SOCIETY
VI. NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM AND I. INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS
Title of your Abstract : Diagnosis of proximal caries after delayed scanning of photostimulable phosphor plates
country : turkey
From : Friday, April 17, 2015
To : Sunday, April 19, 2015
Abstract(Please copy/paste the abstract send to the congress) : Objectives: This study was aimed to assess the effects of delay in scanning PSPs on the diagnostic accuracy of detection of proximal caries.
Materials and Methods: Radiographs from Fifty-two extracted molar and premolar teeth were radiographed using DIGORA Photostimulable phosphor plates (PSP)(Soredex Corporation, Helsinki, Finland). The teeth were either intact or with non-cavitated proximal caries. The plates were scanned immediately (time zero) and at 10, 30, 60 and 120 min after exposure. A total of 65 images were obtained and evaluated for presence or absence of proximal caries by two oral and maxillofacial radiologists and 2 restorative specialists. The diagnostic accuracy of proximal caries detection was measured using a 5-point rating scale. Definite presence of caries was confirmed using a stereomicroscope. Analysis of caries detection data was performed by calculating sensitivity and specificity using repeated measures with ANOVA.
Results: Significant differences were found in complete Negative Predictive Value (NPV), absolute Negative Predictive Value and complete dentine sensitivity value between different scan times (P<0.05). These values were significantly different at 10, 60 and 120 min (P<0.05). However, immediate scan and 30min delay were not significantly different (P>0.05). The accuracy of proximal caries detection at 120min was less than at 60min and at 60min was less than at 30min.
Conclusion: In order to detect proximal caries more accurately, DIGORA PSPs should be scanned within 30min after exposure.

The Congress Reporting Form
How many volunteers were present at the Congress? : 200
Delegates from which countries presented in the congress? : Jordan, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, USA, India, Iraq
Were the delegates of any other organizations present in the congress? : No
If yes, please write the names of the organizations in the box :
What were the responses to your talking points? Were specific questions or concerns raised? : Our work was presented as poster and some of participants asked me about study design, objectives of our study and future studies
If you met staff members, please list their full names & positions. : Dr. Kaan Orhan, Ankara university and Osaka University
Please inform us if there are any follow up actions we need to talk with the members of the congress : No, there are not any special follow up actions you need to talk with the members of the congress. In the congress I met many maxillofacial radiologists and went to many session to discuss the latest development in maxillofacial radiology field. Participation in international congresses will help Iranian maxillofacial radiologists gain international recognition for their work.
Your experiences about the travel processes(Providing ticket, accommodation,...) : Everything was a good experience except unfortunately there are no direct flight to Izmir also because of sanction I had some problems and worries for paying registration and accommodation
Please give a briefing of your own observations and outcomes of the congress: : It was well organized. Considering my own observation and outcomes of the congress, I can tell that it was a great and interesting experience for my academic major. Researchers from many countries presented their works in field of maxillofacial radiology which were very interesting and informative. Their arrangement was good and the panels were held on time but Iranian maxillofacial radiology congress are organized better. The congress happened in that hotel which I had to stay so I could communicate with other professor and see them easily
