Information of Congress
Title of the Congress : 20th International Student Congress of (bio)Medical Sciences
Title of your Abstract : A Comparative Study of Precision Fit, Rotational Freedom, and Torque Loss between Copy-Milled Zirconia and Prefabricated Titanium Abutments
Venue : The Netherlands
From : Tuesday, June 04, 2013
To : Friday, June 07, 2013
Abstract(Please copy/paste the abstract send to the congress) : Purpose: The present study was aimed to compare copy-milled zirconia abutments with standard prefabricated titanium abutments in the terms of horizontal and vertical misfit, rotational freedom, and torque loss.
Materials and Methods: Twenty regular platform implants (Branemark, Nobel Biocare AB, Göteborg, Sweden) with a standard external hexagon were divided into two groups. In one group, prefabricated titanium abutments (Easy Abutment, Nobel Biocare AB) were used, while in the other group custom made zirconia abutments were fabricated using Zirkonzahn milling system. Measurements of geometry, rotational freedom, and marginal discrepancy were performed using Video Measuring Machine. To measure the torque loss, each abutment was torqued to 32 Ncm and then detorqued using a digital torque wrench. The torque loss values were reported as a percentage of the applied torque.
Results: The rotational freedom and the horizontal misfit were significantly higher in the customized abutments (p < 0.001). There were no statistically significant differences in the vertical misfit and the mean percentage of the torque loss between the two groups (p > 0.05).
Conclusions: Within the limitations of this study, it could be concluded that copy-milled zirconia abutments do not fit as accurately as prefabricated titanium abutments. However, the less precise fit of customized zirconia abutments does not seem to affect their capability to maintain the applied torque.

The Congress Reporting Form
How many volunteers were present at the Congress? : About 1000 volunteers from different countries.
Delegates from which countries presented in the congress? : Islamic Republic of Iran, Malasia, Austrailia, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Poland, Egypt, Belarus, Russia, Belgium, France, Ghana, Southern Africa, Tunesia.
Were the delegates of any other organizations present in the congress? : No
If yes, please write the names of the organizations in the box :
What were the responses to your talking points? Were specific questions or concerns raised? : Yes, Some of the participants and the jury committee asked some questions about the procedure of my investigation and I answered them all.
If you met staff members, please list their full names & positions. : L.M.Buddingh, President of the ISCOMS Congress 2013
M.D. Filipe, Scientific programmer of the ISCOMS Congress 2013
Please inform us if there are any follow up actions we need to talk with the members of the congress : I think that there should be a bigger budget for attending these conferences and this budget should be given to the students more than once because the price of the airplane ticket and attending the congress and all the accommodation is very high and most of the students cannot afford it, so they would not take part in such conferences. And also there should be a contact between our university and the staff of this conference because ISCOMS (International Student Congress of (bio)Medical Sciences) is one of the biggest annual student congresses in the world. We should provide students with money and scientific help so that they can present their result of day and night work in front of the dental student from all over the world.
Your experiences about the travel processes(Providing ticket, accommodation,...) : Some of my experiences:
Make sure to reserve your flight ticket very soon because the price may increase.
Arrive at the airport 3 hours prior to your flight time.
Make sure that your accommodation is reserved for the exact days of you stay in the host country, you can reserve a hotel with the help of the travel agencies in Iran.
Please give a briefing of your own observations and outcomes of the congress: : When I arrived at the congress which was taking place in the Hospital of the University of Groningen in The Netherland, I went straight to the registration desk and paid for my registration and recieved my attendance card, and then I attended some of the presentations and workshops. One of the workshops that I participated was about dental implants that was very interesting and we put an implant in the fantoms that they gave us.On the day of my presentation I was very stressfull I practiced all the morning and then went to the class that my presentation was going to take place there, I made my speech, and some of the participants and the jury committee asked some questions that I answered them all. At the end of the oral session the jury selected me as the best presenter of that oral session (winner of the oral session dentistry) and gave me a certificate for that. This congress was helpfull, and made some very big changes in my life, I had the opprtunity to present my investigation in front of other dental students from all over the world, and also I made some very very good friend.
