1.Brief summary of Leave : |
My goal is to construct an Islamic prescriptive theory in nursing based on a conceptual framework you developed for use in by nurses in Islamic clinics and hospitals. Given Pr Fawcett's expertise in analysis, evaluation, and construction of nursing conceptual models and theories. |
2.List the objectives of your sabbatical leave as listed in your proposal and indicate how completely they were met : |
I was at the University of Massachusetts Boston as an International Visiting Scholar, from September 5, 2017 until December 15, 2017, during her sabbatical leave.
During the time I worked closely with Pr Fawcett, meeting for approximately one hour each week with follow-up email communication, to develop a nursing conceptual framework for Islamic culture. This conceptual framework is an important addition to existing nursing conceptual models, almost of which reflect Western Judeo-Christian perspectives of nursing. The paper about the conceptual framework was submitted to a major peer-reviewed nursing journal, Nursing Science Quarterly, on December 5, 2017. I am confident that the paper will be accepted for publication following peer-review.
I actively participated in our PhD Nursing Program course, NURS 750, Contemporary Nursing Knowledge, which Pr Fawcett teach. I satisfactorily completed and did oral presentations of the three assignments for the course (one PowerPoint presentation done in collaboration with a doctoral student in the course and two individual papers). my participation in this course substantially increased the students' and Pr Fawcett’s understanding of Iranian nursing.
I also attended the College of Nursing and Health Sciences weekly Scholarly Dialogues, which increased my knowledge of ongoing faculty research. In addition, I visited Children's Hospital Boston and had an opportunity to observe nursing care in two pediatric intensive care units. This visit was coordinated and hosted by Dr. Jean Connor, a nurse scientist at the hospital. I also visited St. Elizabeth's hospital and had an opportunity to observe nursing care in a neonatal intensive care unit and discuss maternity and neonatal nursing care with our faculty member, Mary Ellen Jagelski, who teaches classroom and clinical components of our undergraduate maternity and women's health course. In addition, I observed an extensive simulation of pediatric nursing care in our Center for Clinical Education and Research.

4.Assessment of Value of Sabbatical leave(benefits,faculty development,future professional activities,...) : |
Course benefits:
This course consists of several sections which the main and side benefits of each section has been described separately.
The main purpose of this course was to teach the philosophy of science and knowledge of theorizing. Learning this skill causes the scientific discourse to be based on the updated knowledge and outstanding ideas of nursing knowledge is created on the basis of global standard methodology and it can be discussed with the international community of nursing based on its own culture and religion as well as to have something to utter in the nursing international community. In addition, designing an Islam-based care and theory model in nursing based on Islam with scientific and global principles can be an honor for Iranian society and especially nursing society, and nursing knowledge in Iran would have a scientific language and theoretical discourse by this.
On the other hand, the lessons learned from this study opportunity can lead to the establishment of nursing Theorization seats and bring up nursing of Iran in worldwide. Prior to this course, nursing theories based on Islamic texts were only at conceptualization level and have not had the coherence of theories and theorizing that the experiences of this study opportunity would help to frame these concepts and opinions. In addition, the supervisor professor of this study opportunity is the most famous and most experienced person in the field of nursing theorization, which can lead to a change in teaching of philosophy and theorizing in nursing.
Learning the teaching methods and using educational experiences of this course can help to promote nursing training in addition to develop theory and theorizing.
Throughout the course, visits from highly-advanced specialist hospitals and preparing reports for nursing community can help to provide better care for patients and promote community health. Observing the way of infants nursing students' training in visited units and skill labs can play an important role in promoting nursing students' education. Finally, observing the methods of child education at community level and evolving ways of children will promote the education of a healthy child's unit, and educational environment of a healthy child will reach the desired state by applying these experiences.
Finally, the experiences of this study opportunity have changed attitude and function of the author as a teacher and educator and significantly increased the author's knowledge and science in relation to the theory and philosophy of science.
