Participants in Self-assessment of Accreditation Process

Accreditation is a process of validation in which colleges, universities and other institutions of higher education are evaluated. The standards for accreditation are set by a peer review board whose members include faculty members from various accredited colleges and universities.

The primary step of accreditation is self-assessment in which all the units of the university must assess themselves according to the indicators defined by the accreditation body in other to recognize their weakness and strengths. The self-assessment process is very vital to the accreditation process since the peer review board of the accreditation body will pay a site-visit to the university in order to confirm the validity of these self-assessments.

In accreditation process of Tehran University of Medical sciences (TUMS), the five offices of Vice Chancellor for Educational Affairs, Research Affairs, Student Affairs, International Affairs and Management Development and Resource Planning and the 11 schools of university participate. The indicators and the three questions for every indicator which are about the availability of documents, implementing an indicator and reviewing it are sent to all these units. These units self-assess themselves and send the results to the quality assurance and international accreditation network in the office of Vice Chancellor for Global Strategies and International Affairs.
